After maybe a decade, I decided to watch this film again and man, isn't it just a great fun time! A very underrated western and a film that nobody seems to talk about anymore. I loved it better now than when I originally saw it. Maybe I just needed a lighthearted blockbuster with tons of charm.

Mel Gibson in his prime. Richard Donner in his prime. Written by William Goldman of Butch Cassidy and Princess Bride fame. James Garner in a sizeable supporting role (he, of course, played the original Maverick on TV). Jodie Foster. Alfred Molina as the villain. Graham Greene in a hilarious role.

And this incredible easter egg.

Any other fans of this film?

If you haven't seen it, and need some escapism, this is it.

Really fun movie. Jodie Foster really shows a flair for comedy in it, plus Mel Gibson, James Garner, James Coburn, Graham Greene parodying his own Dances With Wolves role, Alfred Molina in Western villain mode, and more cameos than you can shake a stick at (Danny Glover’s is the best IMO).

Fun Movie. Love all the cameos especially the actors from the old western TV shows.

Maverick Choir singing AMAZING GRACE.
