Meeting Adam West...

Ok so West is appearing this weekend at a local con (24-26th) and I have been jazzed to finally meet him. I had heard alot of mixed reviews about his apperances (especially around B89) and some of the prices he expects and by all accounts his manager was potrayed as a d**k.

Well today I found it's true. 50 bucks for West's signature per item and his manager was pretty rude to me.

I'm still going to get it cuz how many more times is West going to be seen? but I'm waiting till sunday and praying the gouging dosen't rise any higher.

Anyone else got similer tales?
 
West seems to be in good humor in most of his recent performances. But who knows maybe he is still bitter about the type cast?
 
I've always heard the opposite about West. Always.
 
I met him and Burt some years back at Pittsburgh. He was an ass. Seriously, I was so displeased at meeting him. Burt Ward was awesome. He chatted about the then current incarnations of the characters and how fun it was to be a part of the American culture like he was.

West was the opposite. He was rather bitter towards all the Batman media, aside from his series. Said that what they do now was terrible and that he brought a true rendition of Batman to the people.

Whatever.

Very unimpressed with Adam West.


Prices for their autographs wasnt too bad then, it was $60 for both of theirs together.
 
On IMDB, the stories of his rudeness abound. There's a slew of former West fans taken aback.
 
Ive heard more bad stories than good. Those who have had nice experiences with him should feel lucky. The one thing that I have noticed tho, those who do have good stories to tell, seem to be die hards for the 60's series and West himself. If anyone else who approaches him and just a general Batman fan and just wants to meet him for his contribution to the history of the character, gets the rude treatment. As if he should be herald as the one true Batman, and no other should exist.

Its a shame really, because the man does have alot of "fans".
 
I didn't say he himself was a dick as I haden't talked to him, only his manager who I did talk to and he was a dick.

See I would pay 60 for both as I think that that is fair. Certain folks at this con have gorged on the fans wallets to no end, but this year mostly all the horror/sci-fi guests are back to fair prices.

Johnathan Frakes, while I have no interest in meeting him or star trek, is charging 25 bucks same with Geroge A. Romero, Dwight Schultze (H.M. Murdock ;)) and Malcolm MacDowel.

David Prowse was charging 30 (which I did pay for because he dosen't look to be in good health, also I have a large cardboard cut out I have been sllooowwllyy getting signed. Only got him and Kenny Baker so far)

I do miss the fact that most of the celebs had deals with the pricing if you brought your own item though.

I'm still planning on seeing West tommorrow I guess if I just blow alot of smoke up his ass about his Batman I'll get one of those fabeled "good" encounters.
 
I actually tried getting him to do a film I was making last year. His manager wouldn't call me back.
 
really? Do tell....lol..how did you get into contact with him etc....
 
I actually went through his website. That was a complete dead end. I have doubts that it's even affiliated with him. Then, I actually had to go through a minor league baseball team's events coordinator since he was making an appearance there at a minor league baseball game in Altoona. At the time I was interning at Nick News, so of course I said I represented Nick News and his manager must have heard that and thought it was going to be publicity and a solid paycheck. As soon as he realized that it wasn't going to be for Nick News his manager turned into a total dick.
 
Yeah from all accounts I've read it's the manager who is the jerk and has the doller signs for eyes.
 
Yeah, you'd think that once I was said I was ready to drive from New York to Altoona to meet with him he would have been somewhat receptive. But no, he was a dick.
 
Well in fairness, you did lie about your intentions by saying you were representing Nick News...if some guy came up to you saying he was representing the "Institute For Giving Penismightier a Bunch of Money," and then he just wanted you to be in some low budget movie he was making, you'd probably be less than receptive as well.
 
Thats why i might not like to meet some of my hero's, imagine if i met Conroy, Keaton or Bale and they were total *******s, it would tarnish my views on there films because no matter how good of an actor they are they were still *******s to me. Understand what im saying?

Anyone met Bale, Keaton or Conroy? If so what are they like?

Well, I was going to pay him. It's not like I was asking for money, I was looking to pay Adam West for his services. I didn't lie and say he was going to be on Nick News, I said I worked for Nick News. When he found out the job wasn't actually getting on TV, his manager turned into a total dick.

Ive met Keaton and Conroy. I talked about Keaton in another thread here a couple days ago. Very coo. Conroy I met at a signing at the WB store. I talked with him for about 15 minutes. Guy is very humble and was very enthusiastic about meeting fans, hearing what they had to say, and also about being Batman.
 
I've heard similar, very bad stories from close friends and others.

He was at a con I went to a few years back, and while I love the man's performances, I couldn't bear to meet him for fear of him truly being an ass. I walked right by him and got on line for George Romero, who rocks.
 
From interviews ive seen of Conroy he does seem cool, i would love to meet him probably more than any other actor who has played Batman. Keaton doesn't seem to like people saying "Hey look its Keaton he played Batman", and considering thats what i would want to talk to him about most, it might be a bit uncomfortable.
 
Keaton is more receptive to being approached by others who see him as an equal human being, and not necessarily a superior. He never seemed to like soaking in the spotlight as much as other stars; that's not to say he didn't have his star moments like on David Letterman. But if I were going to ask Keaton for his autograph, I'd do it in a very mellow, layed-back, friendly fashion.
 
You'd have to be an utter 'tard to pay for another man's signature.
 
Well, I met Adam West at the Toronto Fan Expo today. The same place where K.B. met him. He was very nice to me, and has a great sense of humor. His manager didn't seem rude... not to me at least. It was so great meeting him.

I gave it along time ago ... back in the summer of 2k4. Real in depth too. He snapped on a few people who bum rushed him like crazy people. But he has been super nice to me each time I've met him. But maybe that's cause I don't look like a dork or a creep. And I don't drool while talking to him. I was just straight up with him as if he was any other person I meet. He was however the type of guy you'd ask to go grab a brew with and chat about ****. But all in all, he was real down to earth, and suprisingly funny.

Same thing goes for Cillian Murphy this past summer. All the crazy people he wouldn't stop and talk to ... there was one or two people lucky enough to get autographs, but he kept moving and didn't really stop for anyone. When I met him, I came at him level headed and calm and he chatted with me for a bit, and even posed for a picture with me (I posted it a few months back) ... and he didn't do that for anyone when they asked.
