MGM to remake the Secret of NIMH

I absolutely loved this movie as a kid! I Hope they don't go an make an inferior version.

The original was really a landmark film. I can't imagine any remake would be anything but inferior, considering that animated films avoid having any dark themes in them at all.

Perhaps they want to make it more like the book?

Kinda hoping they don't. I know the movie changed a lot from the book. I know those mystical elements were new.

One of the best animations ever made.
No way in hell will they be able to top it.

I've been waiting forever for a NIMH remake! Bring it on.

I have fond memories of the movie.
Don Bluth was overshadowed by Disney, it's a shame.
In France, the mouse was called Brisby and not Frisby.

That owl scared the s*** out of me.

From the way it's sounding with the "mouse joining the hyper intelligent rats in the lab" it may be kind of a prequel to the cartoon with Jonathan being the main character and showing their origins.

I would love a modern version. Done well it could be a very interesting film. Sort of a mini New Planet Of The Apes type film. Imagine the SFX and acting in the the film being done with motion capture? Of actors doing their performance as actual rats, mice, owls, ect.? Hopefully they will not cute it up too much. Yes, the original had Don Bluth's heavily Disney inspired style, but it also was willing to get edgy and dark and mature while still being a kid's film. This is something I find in the fantasy and sci fi films of the late 70's and early 80's that is missing in the films that came later.

Will some of the mice live in the new film?

I wouldn't call this movie a "remake" of the 1982 aniamted movie, it's a new adaptation of Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.

I loved the animated film since i was a kid and the book was good too, let's see how they do well on this live-action CGI adaptation of the book.

I haven't watched The Secret of NIMH in ages.
Don't remember much about it

In the same vein, when will Disney make a live-action remake of The Black Cauldron?
Or at least bring the books - The Chronicles of Prydain, to the big or small screen.

I just found out this, from wikipedia

On March 17, 2016, Variety confirmed that Walt Disney Pictures had acquired the film rights to The Chronicles of Prydain, with the intention to adapt the book series into an epic motion picture series, akin to the Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings film franchises. The project is currently in early development at the Walt Disney Studios with no director, producer, or screenwriter attached yet.

So, yay

This is one of my all time favorite animated films. I can't see any way a remake would come close to it.

I look forward to the Nostalgia Critic video :D

Checking Doug Walker's facebook just waiting to see his reaction. :hehe:

Very dubious about this, though. Live-action cartoon adaptations haven't turned out so well in the past.

Nothing is sacred, is it? This was probably my favorite cartoon as a child (with a great score by Jerry Goldsmith), so of course they hire an Ice Age writer, Ehren Kruger (of Transformers) and a first time director. At best this will turn out like Ender's Game (bland but not terrible).

Sigh. At least we'll still have the original.

Well, technically they can see they're adapting the book again.

They should remake the sequel, remove all the music and bull***** and just try again. :funny:
