Michael Savage banned from Britain

This is a shame....It's the first step is controlling speech and thought....
It will happen here in the US soon enough unless we act

Well it's not like the US cut off the umbilical cord to the UK

No, the first step was the Patriot Act. This is just a continuation of the march towards tyranny.

And it's not like Savage will suddenly change so he can get off a list. He'll continue doing what he does. So it's not controlling his speech or thoughts.

Banned by U.K., Savage hits back

Talk radio host Michael Savage is considering legal action against Britain's top homeland security official after she released today a list grouping him with terrorists and neo-Nazi murderers banned from entry because the government believes their views might provoke violence.

In a telephone interview with WND, Savage said he is still waiting to hear back from attorneys, but he noted Britain has very strict anti-defamation laws.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she decided to publicize the list of 16 people banned since October to show the type of behavior Britain will not tolerate, according to U.K. news reports.

Don't be silent! Sign the petition to block government attacks on freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

Savage's immediate reaction upon hearing the news was typically wry.
"Darn! And I was just planning a trip to England for their superior dental work and cuisine," he recalled thinking.

"Then it sank in," he told WND, "and I said, 'She said this is the kind of behavior we won't tolerate? She's linking me with mass murderers who are in prison for killing Jewish children on buses? For my speech? The country where the Magna Carta was created?'"

Haven't been around here since the election but after reading this story I just had a gut feeling this story would be in this forum :).

I have a love/hate thing with Savage. While I do lean to the right, I'm a bit more libertarian and can't stand listening to Savage talk politics and social issues and hear him (or Levin for that matter) cut off his callers and not let them make their counterpoint or even sometimes a statement agreeing with him. I remember during the whole incident with the Oakland cops that were killed, a police officer called in to thank him for his support and Savage just jumped in yelling about how awesome Mike Savage is - that Mike Savage I want to punch in the face.

Yet, there's another side of Savage that talks about books, cars, music and fine dining that I really enjoy listening to.

I finally got a car with an iPod controller last week so I could care less about radio now anyway.

When I found out that my old cassette player adapter that I used with my CD player would work with my mp3 player, I've been using it for the past 2 years. After I dug through my closet to get it and cleaned the dust off.

NPR and the soul station (WRBO 103.5) have lost me as a listener

Haven't had a cassette player since the dawn of MP3 or would have gone that route, I still have the FM transmitter for my truck but I hate it so much that I still just burn mix cd's for when I take trips in it.

The used car I bought has a tape deck. My mp3s sound just great through the cassette adapter, so I don't have a reason to change.

Gee, I wonder why anyone would want to ban a Neo-Nazi, Jewish Extremist, Ku Klux Klan leader, and Fred Phelps.

We should create a little island for all of them and leave them there to rot.

The Felps family is sooooooooooooo bizarre I've often wondered if his act and the Westboro Church is just a sick hoax. I mean you don't find too many other people out there accusing Reagan and the Holy See of enabling the gay agenda.

For the record, I thought car audio accessories was a much better subject of conversation than Savage and Felps.

Michael Savage is a terrible, hateful, disgusting human being.

But I still don't like this.

I like Michael Savage. I don't like the way he cuts off his callers and his shameless self promotion gets old, but I like his show (I look forward to listening to it again - but that's another story). Of all the radio guys he's my favorite.

This means, of course, my wife absolutely despises him. She, like a lot of people, I think doesn't understand he's being outrageous and outlandish to get his point across. He takes his point then magnifies it to the most extreme exaggerated hyperbole he can then beats you across the head with it. If you can get past that, and the shameless self promotion, the man is smart, articulate, and has positions he to which he sticks. He's not afraid to say what may need to be said, even if it may offend some delicate sensibilities, and doesn't hesitate to call a spade a spade.

Still, I don't think he's be the one I wanted to sit down and have a drink with. That would still be none of 'em:woot:

I don't listen to him, but I don't like Governments coming down on Free Political Speech.

Wow, first time I've ever been in the Politics forum.

Anyway, I just wanted to note that Savage was on the NPR show Talk of the Nation yesterday. It's a call-in show and Savage, after expressing his opinion on the whole situation for about six minutes with the host, makes it about half a minute into his first call before hanging up on the show. I got in the car and caught the tail end of it and I was completely bewildered. I've been listening to Talk of the Nation for about 2 or 3 years now and I've never heard a guest just leave like that. You can listen to it here, if you like: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=103819122 Just thought I'd share it in case people interested in this whole debacle (which I find pretty preposterous on Smith's part) wanted to listen.

Not all countries have the "freedom of speech" thing.

I mean, if the UK wants to ban him...that's up to them, isn't it?

Sovereign nations are allowed to say who can enter their country or not.

He's a hate filled, self proclaimed nationalists, disgusting man. Much of his views border on hate speech and fighting words, which are not protected under the 1rst amendement mind you.

Was Savage Weiner even considering going to the U.K.? We will continue to put up with him, so he might as well stay in the U.S.

For those who arent' familiar with Savage, here's a classic example:

If you listen closely the host tells him to leave after he offers to do so.

Yep. Made sense to me. It's a call-in show, so if the guy is going to react that way to every caller offering criticism, it's obviously not going to work out too well.
