I knew it would do well but I didn't expect it to blow up like this. I forget that Minecraft is the best selling video game of all time so this being a juggernaut makes sense. It's just one of those things that I never really paid much mind to because I was never in that target age group for Minecraft. Everyone 25 and under is eating this up and parents are just being dragged along for the ride. This movie kicking ass financially was not on my bingo card.
Well one was (originally) stoners and outsiders, going to midnight showings, in fringe theaters, referencing, singing along, imitating, and celebrating an independent unconventioal movie, mainstream at the time wouldn't go near.I am seeing it compared to Rocky Horror Picture audiences, with kids.
Jared Hess sucks for this. Sure, by all means keep encouraging this behavior.

How did he land this gig anyway? It's like he materialized out of thin air after being stuck in obscurity for the last 15 years.
And movie theater employees too. When a theater has an isolated screening of Rocky Horror or The Room, they all know what to expect and there'll be extra attention on cleanup afterwards. But for this to be happening multiple times a day at theaters that already have a skeleton crew working there as is? Yeah, this shouldn't be encouraged. Least of all from the director of the movie. You know it's parents with kids who are the most concerned here. Like nobody wants to fear their kids are going to get covered by soda and theater food because of a stupid internet trend.
This and Super Mario Bros. proves low effort can lead to success.
