This is a thread in appreciation of the former Seattle hardcore rockers turned melodic indie band Minus the Bear. They have a new CD being released on August 21st, and as I find myself listening to them nonstop, I decided to share them with my fellow Hypers. Their website is www.minusthebear.com. They're mostly known for guitarist Dave Knudson's use of two hand tapping to create distinctive off beat polyphony and their ******ed song names. Notable tracks include: Monkey!!!Knife!!!Fight!!!, Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse, Get Me Naked 2: Electric Boogaloo, I Lost All My Money at the Cock Fights, Memphis and 53rd, The Game Needed Me, Drilling, The Fix, Pachuca Sunrise, and Hooray.

I can hear him coming....

Teddy is nearly upon us....

Ah. So you saw Rise of the Silver Surfer as well Ronnie?

:ninja:

my buddy dragged me to one of their shows a while back, they were a good live show, but i wouldn't be buying any of their cds anytime soon.

I can honestly say I've never heard of any of the bands you've mentioned.

Oh wait... they're song titles. Still never heard of 'em.

Minus the Bear is indeed a very good band. I've seen them twice at the Southgate House.

I love the guitar guy's use of tapping

I saw these guys at Irving Plaza about 2 years ago with Straylight Run, which got me listening to their music. Good stuff.

I see

was already here.:csad:

i heard good things about them a few years ago so i bought their ep "they make beer commercials like this" and it didn't do much for me. they weren't bad, but they sounded too much like hey mercedes, which isn't really a compliment. they just played here with chin up chin up, who i love, but i missed the show, even though it was 5 blocks from my house. kinda wish i had gone now, just to give them another chance.

Agreed. It's very unique and very difficult to copy. He uses 4 Line 6 DL4 delay modelers on stage. One is for delays and the others are for nothing other then loops. He also keeps 3 extras just in case. The singer uses 2 himself. Dealing with loops in my music is something I've been struggling with getting my head around. It's certainly an art form.

Everything I've listed above has been from their last few cds. Check it out. I'm curious to see if you think any different of their more recent stuff.

This is for all you guitar geeks. Here's a picture of Dave Knudson's pedal board.

Here's a list of his set up:
- PRS 22 Fret Goldtop
- Mesa Boogie Lonestar 2x12 (One of the only Mesas I like)
- Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer
- Boss TU2 Tuner (Great pedal tuner and you can power up to five other pedals off one power supply)
- Boss RV3 Reverb/Delay
- Boss GE7 Equalizer
- Boss CS3 Compressor/Sustainer
- Boss DD20 Delay Twin Pedal
- Barber Tone Press Compressor (Great compressor for anyone looking at them)
- Digitech Whammy (Cool pedal as well)
- Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeler (4 of them) (Love these pedals as well, just wish they were more reliable)
- Not shown on the pedal board but recently added is an Electro Harmonix HOG guitar synth

You shouldn't be here, bear! :cmad:

THE TITLE IS MINUS THE BEAR, AWAY WITH THEE!
