Several minor studios are in a bidding war for a $50 million 3D horror film based on the Michael Jackson's legendary music video "Thriller" reports Deadline.
GK Films, Fox 2000, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are all in contention to pick up the project from Real Effects Entertainment where it is setup, with GK leading the charge.
Story details are being kept secret, though it will look into the folklore of the song and involve the hometown of classic horror actor Vincent Price whose distinctive voice narrates part of the song.
Kenny Ortega ("This Is It") directs from a screenplay by Jeremy Garelick ("The Break-Up").

Could be ok.. although it's just another zombie film really isn't it. I can see it doing well simply for the Thriller connection... I haven't seen Ortegas work, although I've read he did High School Musical but wouldn't it be better both from a directorial point of view and also a marketing point of view to try and have the actual Thriller director, John Landis, direct it :huh: :doh:

:dry: + :doh:= My reaction.
If they want to go into Vincent Price's story then do a biopic about the man. Why would they want to make a movie out of one song? What "folklore" are they talking about? If there was ever going to ba a "Thriller" film, then John Landis would have directed it and Michael Jackson would probably have starred in it (like Purple Rain). When and if they make the film I can see it now, some kids go see a movie and it turns into a horror film from there, expect a CGI Michael and a bad "hip" version of Thriller.

Anyway... There's only one "movie" about that song and it's the 14 min. music video.

I see this as being something like Mama Mia! where it's a story based around the music. I'd love to see it, especially if it includes other MJ songs.

Pretty much. And given the horror influences of Thriller, making it 3D does kind of make sense. The original video had a few scenes (especially the climax in the house with the zombies approaching MJ's girl) that I could see working with 3D.

I always wanted to see a full length movie based on Thriller but it will probably be PG-13. Bring back Rick Baker as the make-up artist, just don't reuse the same werecat/werewolf hybrid or whatever it was supposed to be. A monster inspired by the song that I hope they do use is "The Thing With 40 Eyes" how cool would that be or it would probably turn out to look ridiculous.

You can't have thriller without Michael Jackson:dry:

No Michael Jackson either but they will surely have a Michael Jackson zombie in the movie.

What color will the Michael Jackson zombie be? How about a 2 faced Michael Jackson zombie half black & half white.:woot:

This doesn't excite me at all because I'm not a fan, however, I hope it turns out well for those who are.
