My favorite is action adventure third person open world games like GTA, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs and Shadow of the Colossus. My favorite thing about open world games is I can free roam and look at the surroundings and do nothing else especially the ones with cars, horses, ships and helicopters. I could really waste my time just walking, driving and randomly attack people and not get bored.

Then second, would action adventure third person linear games. Usually a lot of the games I liked have rpg elements but I have yet to play a rpg game in which I have to customize a character from scratch. So games, like Assassin's Odyssey, Horizon and X-Men Legends, I wouldn't exactly call those as rpg games.

Then my least favorite genres, I have so many that I avoid. I feel such a snob that I avoid so many types of games.
-my number one is probably those sports simulation game. I just have no interest in sports in general and I've played sports games back in ps1 and I always sucked at it. I recently played a nba2k game and I hated it.
-second, would be racing games which could be considered as sports game as well. I suck them at too, and I usually ignore those too in open world games.
-third, would be horror and fantasy games with disturbing imagery. games that are just potentially nightmare inducing to me and they just stresses me out. Like I already dread when I play Resident Evil but I'm already invested to it that I can't quit anymore. But I don't think you could convince me to play Silent Hill and any games from FromSoftware.
-first person shooters especially multiplayer and battle royale. I have played a few back fps games back in ps1 but this will never appeal to me. While multiplayer and battle royale easily gets old to me and the lack of a campaign/story just doesn't appeal to me.
-those strategy top down games, I have never played any of those games
-lastly, platform games and fighting games. Most of my childhood games are either fighting games and platformers but they just don't appeal to me anymore. Some action-adventure games I've played on ps4 feature some platforming and I usually fail in the first try. And I recently played 4 fighting games but I don't think I could play a new fighting game IP or those linear platform games coming out in the ps5.

Adventure games is by far my favourite genre, especially point and click ones. Racing games are probably my least favourites.

My favorite would be third person open world games that Rockstar Games perfected with GTA and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Least favorite would be sports games. Not because they aren't fun, but because they change very little year to year. Once you've played any Madden on a current generation console, you've played them all and you won't really see a significant difference until the next generation comes out. Also, the controls are overcomplicated on some games like the NBA 2K series.

Fair enough. Even though they're almost completely different type of games.

Well a lot of action adventure gamesare different from one another for example Grand theft auto and Assassin's Creed - totally different despite being an action oriented open world franchises. While Detroit Become Human is classified as an "adventure game".

Thing is there's so many subgenres. I tried to simplify the poll choices as it would be too many to list them all.

Yeah but it's actually kind of the opposite. Action-adventure, as the name suggests, is a mixture of two types of games, action games and adventure games, so that's the sub-genre, really.

I know action-adventure is a way more popular game category now. Adventure games were big back in the 90s but have since become a thing mostly for indie companies, with a few exceptions of popular interactive story games, which is kind of like an evolution of the genre. At the same time point and click, which is indeed a sub-genre, while still exists, it's nowhere near as big as when Lucasarts and Sierra Entertainment were developing games.

Anyway, I didn't mean to tell you what to add in your own poll. I was just suggesting and clearing some things out. I already voted for the closest genres to that, after all.

Open world
Third person shooter
RPG
Hack and slash

Those are definitely my favorite. Least favorite would have to be real time strategy and platformer.
