What movies do you think have the best screen performances?

Here are my nominations:

On the Waterfront - Brando's performance is able to electrify every scene he's in.

The Lion in Winter - The cast is able to lift up the dialogue from a droll historical drama to a sharp banter-fest

Pirates of the Caribbean - Just try to imagine how any other actor besides Johnny Depp would have played Sparrow and you'll see what I mean

The Odd Couple - Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are brilliant with Neil Simon's dialogue

The Philadelphia Story - Because watching three legendary thespians (Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart) in this dramedy is sheer joy

Raging Bull - It's kind of cliche to say that an actor inhabits the role, but that's just what De Niro does here

The Godfather - Brando, Pacino, Caan, it's high melodrama at it's finest

Now, this list is in no way complete. It's just to throw some titles out there.

Good list.
How about:
Empire Strikes Back- Brilliantly acted and Paced. It is the Ultimate Sci-fi/Fantasy Film.

Serenity- Up there with ESB, They are what an ensemble cast should be.

Nice picks.....

How about: -
- The Shawshank Redemption.
- L.A. Confidential.

Requiem For A Dream: Ellen Burstyn's performance is incredibly heartbreaking

Mr. Bauer.
Ryankris has infiltrated the boards again as Rkat25.
Please terminate him.
LOL!

Rebel Without A Cause - every young male actor should takes notes on everything Dean did in this film. He was electrifying.

Almost Famous - my favorite movie. It's ahrd to pick a great performance because everyone ****ing rocks in it. Hudson is especially at her peak here.

Goodfellas - De Niro, Liotta, Pesci. 'Nuff said.

True Romance - the amount of quality actors in this film and their performances are amazing.

I've noticed. I THINK I already reported him, but I'm not sure...

I have always thought that "Boyz in the Hood" was basically a modern day remake of "Rebel Without a Cause"

I saw a good half of Boyz In The Hood, and a lot of the sentiments that are echoed are in a similar vein to RWAC. I wouldn't go as far to call it a remake, but I can definitely see where you're going with it.

I'm actually planning on watching RWAC later on today, possibly tonight.

Of course not a "total" remake. However, the main theme and story is very similiar. I should have said a modern day version of the same theme.

That would've been more accurate, but I got your point.

Seriously though...watch the two films back to back...Singleton's film is equal to RWAC as a film covering the same subject.

I actually think that Boyz is a vastly underrated film.

I was thinking of adding Confidential but I was short on time while typing

Shawshank is a great choice as well

And every actor should watch two movies back to back: White Heat followed by Yankee Doodle Dandy. And then they should be told that they both had James Cagney in them.
