Don't quote me on this....but I suspect it's because there are more Japanese in Japan than Americans....but you never know.
 
But the point is, the guy doesn't travel.
 
I didn't read all of the story, but can easily assume men in office don't like getting free laptops.

Or maybe they were PC's, and they are Mac guys.

HP Compaq line, or the retitled Elitebooks, are actually some of the best notebooks in the market. With the hard metal alloy chassis and steel hinges, shocks and spillproof keys. Internal parts don't mean much if it can't take the hits, and the batteries stink. On top of which they have better warranties and treat their customers better. That is business customers take precedence over consumers. But you don't have to be a businessmen to buy these books.

Business notebook > Consumers grade crapbooks
