My local Jiu Jitsu community stunned Lloyd Irvin by rape case!

I've being doing bjj for 7 years now, and these two guys and the victim are well known by a lot in the DMV Bjj community, and we are stunned and disgusted by these accusation.

They belong to a rival school, but we all know each other from competition:

Matthew Maldonado and Nicholas Schultz -- Brazilian jiu-jitsu products out of Lloyd Irvin Martial Arts School in Camps Springs, Md. -- were recently arrested for allegedly raping an intoxicated female acquaintance from the gym in a parking garage on New Year's Eve.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Lloyd Irvin has trained several very successful mixed martial arts (MMA) professionals, including Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) stars Dominick Cruz, Phil Davis and Brandon Vera, among others.

However, it seems that two of Irvin's students, Matthew Maldonado -- a highly decorated and accomplished jiu-jitsu brown belt -- and Nicholas Schultz, have gone astray. Maldonado, 26, and Schultz, 21, have been accused of an awful crime, raping a female training partner from Irvin's gym, repeatedly, in a parking garage on New Year's Eve night.

Excessive amounts of alcohol, unsurprisingly, as well as diabolical betrayal, fueled the unimaginable assault.

ABC 7 News in Washington, D.C., provides the dirty details:

"... the young woman, Maldonado and Schultz all know each other from the Lloyd Irvin Martial Arts School in Camps Springs where they trained. Police said the woman bumped in the two men at a club in D.C. They offered to escort her to an instructor's home, because she was too drunk to drive. But the men took her to the St. Matthew's Center parking garage instead, police explained, where surveillance cameras captured Maldanado raping the woman and Shultz joining."

Both men are expected to appear in court tomorrow (Thurs., Jan. 10, 2013) to answer to the charges. Meanwhile, Irvin issued a statement that obviously distances his gym from the students, as well as denounces their "horrible act."

"We are surprised and saddened by the report of this terrible attack. Our prayers and thoughts are for the support of the victim ... it must be emphasized that the horrible act described in police reports had nothing to do with our business or our employees."

Maldonado recently placed third at IBJJF No Gi Jiu-Jitsu World Championship at California State University in Long Beach, Calif., on Nov. 4, 2012. He lists his personal interests on Facebook.com as, "Becoming Black Belt World Champion and 125lb UFC Champion!!!!"

They got it with surveillance. Good. That means the guys won't get away with it, like they might in the Steubenville case.

It just goes to show how pervasive rape culture really is in our world. It's frightening and disgusting how men will take advantage of physically incapacitated women like this.

I want to take every guy on the planet and shake him by the shoulders and tell them that if they have sex with an extremely drunk woman, they are pathetic losers who can't get laid any other way. I want to curbstomp everybody who thinks having sex with a woman who is far too drunk to consent is a good idea.

Although women need to be more careful nowadays. If a woman wants to go out and get drunk to that point, they should plan ahead and bring a friend to drive them home. I don't hang out at bars, but I've read so many horror stories. People need to protect themselves when going out to that setting.

Well what i find more disgusting is the fact that they were team mates. Anyone that has taken martial arts knows that your team mates essentially become your family; so they basically raped a family member.

Seriously. Date rape is far more common than stranger rape...but taking her to a parking garage is kidnapping. That's not some simple misunderstanding or "things went too far" or something gray fuzzy boundary. That's the deepest kind of betrayal.

I don't want women's only option to be spraying mace at every male that comes within 10 feet of them, but men like this are seriously NOT helping.

People like this disgust me. As someone who's done martial arts for over a decade, I've seen a number of bad seeds who use their abilities for all the wrong reasons. This is just above and beyond, though.

I say cuff their hands and feet together, and let the woman practice her techniques, full contact, on the rapists for the rest of her life.

She's probably using the old 'it was consensual' defense to excuse her sons behavior. After having the whole ordeal caught on tape, and i assume the victim not resisting due to her intoxicated state, that's the only hand they can play.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning whether they used the techniques. But the discipline and camaraderie that should be instilled in such longtime and dedicated students. I expect this least out of martial artists, but discipline and respect are left out these days.

You should have seen the video. And Aaron France is a complete *******. Nothing that he wrote about in his account of the surveillance tape is actually on the tape. He may be sued for slander and that is why he is no longer posting anything. He's shivering in his boots right now.

That's was Nicholas's mom who said that, not Maldonado's mom. Show's you how the media got it wrong again. And there were 14 jurors who sat through the trial. 2 of the jurors (alternates) were dismissed once the deliberations started. And yes…. They played the video over 10 times. And yes, Nicole Sanhueza impeached herself over 17 times. And yes, Maldonado was found not guilty on 11 felony counts and 11 misdemeanor counts. They couldn't even convict him for saying hi! Sad how you quickly rush to judgement and later text him about how sorry you were for the bad things you said about him. you are a disgrace!

They were acquitted of the charges because, as one Juror who went on camera stated, you couldn't tell if it was consensual or not. There was no audio. And according to this same juror, you couldn't make heads nor tails of what was going on.

The most disgusting part of this case is not so much the sex, which could have very well been consensual, it's the fact that they left her there on the floor, half naked and drunk
in dangerously cold weather; it would have been bad enough if it was just some girl they just met, but to leave a friend / team mate in that condition is just….wow…...
