For school we have to film us performing a scene from Hamlet (we can do it alone or in groups. I'll likely work with my friend). I know very little about filming and editing. My dad has a Sony DCR-2100 Handycam. The booklet just talks about putting images onto your computer and burning them on a DVD (I'm not sure if this purely means pictures or also includes video). Basically what I want to know is if there is a good film editing software out there? I just need to do basic things like cut scenes and maybe add sound. If anyone can pass on any valuable info, please do. Thanks.

There's lots of good editing programs, Final Cut, Premeire, Avid...but they all cost a pretty penny.

I looked after posting this and saw. I'm not spending over $500 for something I need once. I'll probably just find someone in school who knows this stuff.

Try Sony Vegas

Only 80 bucks

If you really don't want to spend money, Windows comes with it's own very simple video editing software. It's very basic with it's transitions and effects but very worthwile. It even has a DV capture option to rip directly from your firewire port. That's only on XP though

Doesn't Microsoft have a cheap version? Movie Maker or some crap?

What's it called?

Windows Movie Maker. If you don't have it, you can install it from Microsoft for about 50 bucks.

Nah, just kiddin. It's free but you seriously have to download it there

I wanted to make sure he was talking about the same thing.

I downloaded it from a torrent since it was taking forever from Microsoft's website.
