It could have been canned. I've noticed a lot of projects that were announced that seemed like they were ready to go as far as cast, etc. have been quietly cancelled. Another example would be that Little Shop of Horrors remake that was announced with Taron Egerton, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Billy Porter that never materialized.

II wonder why in this case. With such prominent young actors onboard, it surely must have been worth being made.

What's the reason to cancel a project without mentioning it?.
