(note: This is a discussion on CHRISTIANITY, not debate as to if this religion is right or wrong. Please do not come in here and say "It doesn't matter because its fake!", you know who you are. For the most part, Hype Christians respect your beliefs, please respect ours. If you don't like the discussion...don't read it).

Anyhow. It turns out that new documents were uncovered claiming that Judas betrayed Jesus at his request and Judas was the only one who understood Jesus' need to leave his Earthly body for the greater good. Judas apparently is described in this by Jesus as his most loyal disciple and the only one who really understands him and his teachings.

Very interesting read

Scorcese had it right. Take that, Mel.

I saw it earlier cool stuff, Judas was true in the end.

I didn't read the article, but I've got one question. Are they actually accepting it as a new book, or has it simply surfaced?

I wonder what the church will say regarding all of this.

Theres evidence to support it being real, the Church has said nothing about it yet, if I'm not mistaken.

I'll read it when that book by National Geographic comes out.

Even though I don't believe in any god-claims by any religion, theologies is one of my interests. Hell, it was my minor in college

"he leather-bound copy of the gospel was written in Coptic script on both sides of 13 sheets of papyrus, and spent most of the past 1,700 years hidden in a cavern in the Egyptian desert, said Terry Garcia of the National Geographic Society.

This document was probably copied from the original Greek manuscript around the year 300, Garcia said. Discovered in the 1970s near Minya, Egypt, the volume -- including the gospel and other documents -- was sold to an Egyptian antiquities dealer in 1978.

The dealer offered it for sale without success, and eventually locked it in a bank safe deposit box in Hicksville, New York, for 16 years, which hastened its decay. In images displayed at the briefing, the papyrus looked like brown, dry autumn leaves.

Garcia said it had crumbled into more than 1,000 pieces."

Hicksville, NY. Heh.

Judas commited suicide....

His portrayal totally goes against the Bible.

1700 years. SOmeone would not appreciate the concept of a hoax or see Judas as someone worthy of centering a hoax around back then. Maybe it is real.

They'll ignore it probaly.

:(

If it gets enough media, they will have to acknowledge it. However, with a Pope like BEnedict they will probably deny and blacklist it.

This has to be fun times for someone like Kessel Day. He's probably reread the bible about a jillion times, and now he finally has new stuff to read.

I heard about it on a radio station.Interesting, though it was said it probably wont be part of canon.

Leave KEssel Day alone. She is a very nice poster.

And it took them how long to acknowledge Galileo was right?

Considering this goes againt the Bible's say on Judas, it won't be added.

Judas betrayed Jesus, but then realized what he did. He killed himself afterwards...

Sounds interesting, but it does seem not meet up to the criteria of the cannonization of the New Testament. Sounds gnostic as most "previously undisclosed/unfound supposed inspired text" of the New Testament are.

A) That wasn't a slight, if I were a fan of studying a contained source for years, and then suddenly a new section to it was discovered, I'd be excited as hell too.

B) Kessel's a chick?
