Well the eye remake is now being done by lionsgate now and there know for releasing the more hardcore horror type stuff. With the saw Movies and releasing the Desecent here in america.

What was the original eye rated?

I've wanted to see it but the video stores around me don't carry it. I heard its not really a horror movie but more of a suspense like movie. With a scare here and there.

i just checked imdb and it says its rated R for some disturbing images.

The first half of the movie is pure 100% horror movie. Watch it in the dark at 2 A.M. in the morning with headset and you'll understand the meaning of a good scare.

The second part is disappointing since it leads to a more suspensful kind of movie. But do not doubt for a second it is an horror movie. Heck, it has more horror in there then in any Texas prequel and saw combined together.

And yes, a remake is a bad thing. Like every other sad american asian remake, they'll loose all of the original appeal to please a rather generic crowd.

I'm looking forward to The Eye remake, as I wasn't all that impressed with the original film. I actually found it rather boring. If the filmmakers behind the remake to come up with their own twist on it without changing the narrative structure, I think it could do good.

The Ring remake, as another poster stated, worked because it was just a good movie. There was care and attention to detail put forth in making it a strong film and not relying on the popularity of the original. It knew there were cultural elements than needed to be changed altogether, but the structure of the story remained.

OT - I find interesting that remakes like The Ring and The Departed actually benefitted from flukes in regards to the settings of their stories. Watching The Departed, I can't imagine the film being set in New York, as it was originally intended. Boston was a character in and of itself that made the film more engaging and fresh. We've seen countless NYC crime dramas already. (Ironically, the film was still shot primarily in NY)

In the case of the Ring, which was originally to take place in Boston, moving the setting to Seattle was great. The architecture of the city coupled with the rainy weather made for a great subconscious reminder of the where the original film hails from.
