Nielsen to begin integrating mobile views in its ratings numbers

It's not like most of the shows people watch these days are recorded on the PVR or watched online.

That entire industry has been forcefully digging its heels in against the internet since it became viable to watch television shows on the internet well over a decade ago. And they're still fighting it today.

What surprises me is they still use Nielsen ratings to judge viewership numbers when it's so unreliable. But then I guess they are so ingrained with their existing system they can't or won't find a more accurate alternative to audience numbers.

It's really weird in a world of NSA spying on phones and social networks but Xbox knowing how many people are in the room playing but that box sitting on your tv can't give an accurate account of what and how long you watched something live? Instead of relying on Nielsen families. Weird.

Yep. With all this data gathering they still can't figure out a good way to see who is watching their shows.

I'm just going to say, I hate the Nielsen ratings. I think they are one of the most corrupt industries out there, and it's amazing that TV networks are allowing something that has maybe only 20,000 members max to dictate what 300 million viewers watch.

That's why CBS is always at the top. Not everybody is watching that stuff.

Ya it's pretty ridiculous that they are so ingrained into our tv culture but then again tv has been one of those places that don't want to get with the times

In more ways than one. Let me just say, I think TV is progressing backwards to what it was in the 80's and 90's.

Well we got Fresh Prince of Bel Air out of those times so they weren't all bad. :p

It's all just lousy reality tv and poorly done sitcoms. Yet another reason I prefer to just watch things made online.

That's not entirely true. There are some quality shows out there granted they're few and far in between.

Like when we were kids, all the good stuff is on cable.

I barely watch TV anyway. I have netflix and the internet. My current TV hasn't even been hooked up to television services for years.

Nielsen should take into account pirate bay torrents as well if they really want to get with the times

Then they'd get shut down for downloading shows they're meant to be scoring... so yes then. Let them do that.
