I need a bias opinion here. Hell - rant and rave, for all I care.

So this summer I'm working as a Camp Director. Upon the first few weeks, I received a memo, as did the rest of the staff, that "no one should use his or her cell phone during work hours."

I own a Blackberry Storm, and use the little trick for everything she's worth. I mean, she carries my last name in all.

I digress.

So the other day, per the memo, I was sent home for "using my phone."

I told the assistant boss that I was taking pictures of the kids, on a field trip, and that I could prove so. Further, I added that I could prove my "non-cell-phone usage, in the areas of calling, texting, etc."

I was written up, and asked to leave for the day.

Today, I was given the write-up, for approval and signature. Upon reading said write-up, I read "Jason told me he used the phone for checking the weather and taking pictures."

Note - the assistant did not tell me to stop. She said "I see you're using your phone, if the boss finds out, she will send you home."

My retort, "I am only using it to take pictures, and sometimes to check the weather."

I sat down with the Assboss, and she told me I needed to set an example, and that I haven't shown any pictures. To which I replied, "if I show the the dozens of pictures, will this write-up be null?"

She said "no."

At the end of the meeting, I said, "I will not sign until I show the Boss all the pictures I have taken, to prove that I am using my phone for professional gain, not personal." Further, I stated I could show my bill and display that I have not used the phone for personal calls or text.

I fell I am at a loss. I was sent home, for doing something decent - as oppose to rambling on the phone. My case is clear, and they will not listen.

Thoughts, points, etc.

Don't mean to sound like an ass but rules are rules. They didn't ask you not to make phone calls or send text messages, but they asked you not to use your phone. You still did and you got caught.

We have similar where I work now because cell phones can interfere with some of the equipment that it used. Does it interfere when I check my email on my 'berry... No, but I still can't have the phone out unless I'm at my desk.

Granted.

But when the point was made, off the pictures, before said write-up, NOTHING was said.

At that point, when I handed in the memo, and said OUT LOUD, "I use my phone to take pictures." The boss should have said - "that's great. So from now on, you use your CAMERA."

She didn't. She said, "send me the photos."

Yeah she should never have asked for the photos. If I'm going to write someone up it's non-negotiable at that point so there's never a point to ask for these pictures.

Further, when I was told "even if you look at your phone, we have to assume your are using it."

To which I replied - "so when you looked at the time the other day, using your phone, you should have sent yourself home."

She didn't like that. Not. . one. bit.

Also, they harped on me being the leader - DIRECTOR - and how I should set an example. I've complained about anther counselor acting a fool, not taking orders, and using her phone - ie talking to people, and nothing was said.

On the topic of Ad hominem, when I told the Assboss that she checked the time, per her telling me "leaders need to set examples," she just sat there, leaned back and said "Ok 'den, ok. . ok 'den."

Don't call my ****, on doing something decent for the kids, to not allow me to say to you - "hey ****er, weren't you on the phone, less than a week ago."

I think it's sad that people can't manage to go a matter of a few hours without touching a piece of technology. People who can't go to the grocery without talking on the phone or texting for example.

Supermarkets have technology. Your example fails.

Not the cart! :o

Remember in the 90's all the supermarkets thought it'd be smart to put calculaters on the handles of the carts........till kids and teens starting breaking them and just ripping them right off

That little thing that stops your cart when it crosses a certain line, technology. And the cart has wheels.

I know when I've been defeated. Good day.

Haha, never had those around here.

Maybe you & Mickey Rooney should do lunch sometime?

It's funny you mention this because my buddy at work...a bank...almost got fired because on the security camera it looked like he pocketed a $1000 strap of 20s on the day it went missing from the vault when in fact he was just sneaking a text because they make it such a crime to have a cell phone out on the teller floor. it's a shame too because he lost a week's pay over something he didn't even do.

I personally think it's ********. Texting during downtime is not a crime.

Supermarkets have these little contraptions that lock the wheels on the shopping cart when you go too far way from the store.

You must be from the future, but that is a kickass idea.

It happens all the time at target when people try to cut through the mall instead of going out the main entrance/exit. It's funny when you see people try to keep pushing the carts out the door.

I have honestly never seen that...........where do your homeless get their shopping carts from then?

^The ones people leave outside

But, I'm not understanding:huh: if the wheels lock up after you get too far from the store like Darth said, then that makes no sense. A homeless person has no need for a shopping cart thats wheels are locked

There are probably thousands of shopping carts out in the real world running amok.

Homeless people usually have had their carts from the 80's.

I need video evidence of this cart locking technology.
