Paying tribute to the 25 years and 300 issues that lead to the birth of the show this very subforum is dedicated to.

Are the New 52 comics worth a shot or should one just stick to the Vertigo comics?

Stick to Vertigo. The New 52's nothing but a early 90s wasteland in terms of weak writing, garish costumes and even more marginalizations of characters who are more popular than the meltoast SA characters (i.e. Kyle Rayner, Tim Drake and Dick Grayson)

Funny, the NBC Constanteen seems closer to the New 52 version with just sprinkles of Hellblazer. Maybe not Constanteen by himself but the rest of the show looks a lot like New 52 with Dr Fate's helmet and the fire from John's hands and the maybe Zatanna like character. I am convinced we will never get a pure Hellblazer :/

You mean the other way around. They're using the Newcastle incident as opposed to the Nick Necro crap and John doesn't drive*

EDIT:*Save for the one time in the original Books of Magic mini series and in Part Four of Red Sepulchre (though that had much to do with a car being an automatic)

I don't mean the origin but the overall feel of the show. Yes the Newcastle incident is there but the colours, the fancy magic, dr fate and the shouting of incantations if very new 52. In new 52 everythis is more fancy and colourful. It's not bad by any means it's not the gritty urban supernatural drama Hellblazer was.

You left out crossover overload.

Even Mike Carey's 2002-2005 run had demons being flung around and "fancy magic" without forgeting what the character was about. The New 52 changed too much to a point where the Didiot might as well have called New 52 John Willoughby Kipling

It has some good moments though. It's not all bad, it's just not Hellblazer. Not even Carey Hellblazer who had colours and demons flying around but still it was a gritty supernatural drama. His run is probably my least favourite.

I'd love a scene like this on the show. :woot:

it's the cover for issue #200.

i know whatchya mean. :csad:

i feel like the show is trying to fuse both together . sometimes it kinda works, sometimes it doesn't. (i still honestly hate the theme song, doesn't give me a hellblazer vibe at all , more like watching one of the cheesiest episodes of doctor who possible )

i blame david goyer. as does everyone else whenever something goes bad in a comic book adaptation.

at the same time though, part of me still kinda digs it , loving matt ryan as constantine, doesn't wanna betray the show, hopes it'll grow into something more "hellblazer " esque which it seems like it's starting to just a bit, i fanboygasm everytime even the smallest hellblazer easter egg is dropped, etc.

overall, it's a tad bit flawed and needs to amp up the grit and remove the cheese, but atleast it's not keanustine.

meanwhile, there's these little gems to consider as far as a more proper "hellblazer " feel goes for a live action comic book adaptation. (one of them taken straight off a scene from the comics )

The 2nd fanfilm, yes. The first vid is a ripoff of a similar HB fanfilm and its loses points in bringing up anything from Peter Milligan's ****storm of a run that makes Sleepy Hollow's current creative plight look fluffy in comparison

i actually removed the fan films from my post since i realized "wait, this is SHH. they don't like the naughty words here . " but those were the only 2 that i've found online that really appealed to me and that i felt got the tone right.

I ordered volume 1 of Hellblazer. The show has hooked me up! I feel like I've missed so much.

I need a Hellblazer fix.

Clearly Doyle and Tynion forgot that Delano did it first (as well as Morrison and Mike Carey)
