I'm not talking about corney magazines and cheesy entertainment shows that devote half the subject matter to desperate housewives and Tom and Kate I'm talking about the buzz on the street, in the comic stores, at work where everyones younger than me and who play gmas read comics love movies and all my friends and other "fans" and abosolutely no one bar MYSELF (that I have come across) is excited for this movie. And considering it's only months away and has a huge budget thats surprising.
And after the luke warm reception King Kong got I would start putting out some real marketing if I were WB, NOT corney EW covers of Kate and brandon or plain daily planet pics.

Like a pic of jimmy olsen with a camera could get ANYONE excited.

I hate to tell you but the general public is a much broader audience than those who patrol comic book stores and play video games? Think about it logically, how many people do you come across in a day, or in a year even. It doesn't amount to the people who are surfing the internet everyday searching for information on Returns that have pushed it to 3rd most searched movie of last year and 1st in February.

I think WB knows what they're doing, they're hitting us with a marketing blitz the last three months. Superman is no King Kong, there is no comparision. Better comparision is with Batman Begins which turned out fantastic and was a sleeper hit.

You're forgetting about the shot of Superman holding up the Daily Planet Globe and descending with it along with the countless other photos.

Well, the people he talked with ARE the general public who will be going to see the movie...

It's nothing to be surprised of if people aren't excired for SR, but are for SM3. Spider-Man has had 2 movies, people know what to expect. Superman has been absent for a long time, people aren't so happy to see him anymnore (sounds familiar :)).

But the advertising hasn't started yet. Hopefully some clips will be released showing amazing stuff to win people over.

They need to be careful not to oversaturate the audience with promotion though. Remember we live in a country with the shortest attention span on the block. Intice em right before the movie comes out and people will flock to it.

And for your information, I happen to really like Jimmy Olsen. (just kidding, nobody likes Jimmy Olsen):)

Damn right they do(attention span)!
I thought people wouldn't go and see Batman Begins because of the origin part, but thankfully word of mouth won over and the fact that people really like Batman after all. B&R didn't kill it permanently.
Supermans a bit dorkier though but I'm sure it will do very well. In fact it will probably do way better than Batman box office wise.
i need to see at least one more villain from the books besides Luthur before I die so I need some sequels too.
Yep, those pics of Jimmy Olsen have the whole studio buzzing about superman returns!!

Of course. The broad audience go billions beyond who I know. But don't you think at least the fans should be excited about THEE biggest superhero in a movie that people are calling THEE biggest WB movie of all time.
I think they also missed an oportunity to show stuff at Wondercon (which is down the street from me). They showed no new footage which is a disgrace.

lets go thgrough the facts: we started to talking about that peopel talk more about spiderman 3 than SR. but nobody did say that fans like the new suit(spiderman). yeah people didnt or still dont like the new suit.

p.s. since when do comic fans like what they get?

Thats the problem. The fans of the comics are the worst critics and for the most part can never be pleased because they are comic book fans. There is a difference between Superman comic fans and Superman fans. Big difference.

Totally! If I don't see Brainiac in the sequal I might have to eat someones children.

Once people see a trailer with the man flying they are going to crap themselves. This movie will be seen.

^Exactly. Once we see a GRAND trailer, complete with Williams music, people will get pumped.........

That's what I am hoping for. I would say from the people that I showed the teaser to, half were excited and the other half just started off with a bunch of questions. Some got the messiah imagery and other didn't.

I gently and kindly disagree. :)

At work (videogame game company) I 've been showing pics from Superman and trying to hype it up for the last 6 months. Most people dug the new Superman costume but remain "Meh" about the movie.
But when the black spiderman suit showed up last week, my god! EVERYONE was buzzed about it and talking Venom and symbiotes all week and asking if the movie was coming out THIS summer only to be disappointed by the realisation of more than a years wait.
Even my friends who read Superman comics seem more excited and intrigued about Spiderman3.

That could all change once the new trailer comes out and shows us (FINALLY) the huge scale of this movie. I for one can't wait to see that and not more crappy daily planet set pics.

What's your avatar anyway? I can't make it out.
