Charlize Theron & KiKi Layne Comic Book Action Feature ‘The Old Guard’ Lands At Netflix

Netflix has secured the rights to Gina Prince-Bythewood’s female-fronted action film The Old Guard, which is based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernández.

As previously announced, the feature stars Charlize Theron and If Beale Street Could Talk breakout Kiki Layne. Rucka is writing the screenplay.

Kenzari will play a man who was once a Moor warrior.

Old Guard tells of a small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy (Theron), who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.

Matthias Schoenaerts, Luca Marinelli Board Charlize Theron Action Thriller 'The Old Guard'

Matthias Schoenaerts and Luca Marinelli have joined the cast of Charlize Theron action thriller The Old Guard. Gina Prince-By the wood is directing the Skydance/Netflix project, which already has Kiki Layne and Marwan Kenzari on the call sheet. Guard tells of a small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy (Theron), who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new Greg Ruckimmortal (Layne) at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.

Character descriptions for the pair were not revealed, although it is known that they form part of the group of immortal mercenaries. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are producing, as is Marc Evans. Theron and her Denver and Delilah partners, Beth Kono and A.J. Dix, are also producing. Stan Wlodkowski and Greg Rucka are exec producing. Guard is based on the comic written by Rucka and drawn by Leandro Fernandez. Rucka also wrote the script along with Prince-Bythewood.

Schoenaerts has appeared in European dramas such as his breakout, Rust and Bone, Far From the Madding Crowd and The Danish Girl. He appeared opposite Jennifer Lawrence in spy thriller Red Sparrow and most recently starred in the French drama The Mustang. He is repped by CAA and France UBBA. Marinelli may be best known to genre audiences for starring in Italian superhero drama They Call Me Jeeg.

BAZ BAMIGBOYE: Chiwetel Ejiofor joins the immortal combat gang in The Old Guard | Daily Mail Online

Chiwetel Ejiofor has joined blockbuster film The Old Guard, which is taking up more space than the latest Bond picture at Pinewood Studios.

Ejiofor’s character Copley is an ex-CIA operative who hires the fighters for a rescue mission. Nor is sociopathic businessman Steve Merrick, to be played by Harry Melling, who also joined the production yesterday, along with Veronica Ngo, who played a fighter pilot in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. She will play a character called Quynh.

Charlize Theron is the best action heroine of our times. She's been knocking it out of the park in these kinds of roles in the last few years ("Mad Max: Fury Road," "Atomic Blonde").

Wow how did I miss this? This looks super badass and man does it have a cool premise. Definitely watching this as soon as it drops. Also, Charlize is certainly on her way to becoming a great action star period.

I hope the violence isnt that sanitized in the actual film. This netflix adaption looks PG-13.
