TOKYO: A 43-year-old Japanese woman whose sudden divorce in a virtual game world made her so angry that she killed her online husband's digital persona has been arrested on suspicion of hacking, police said Thursday.
The woman, who is jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game "Maple Story" to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.
"I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry," the official quoted her as telling investigators and admitting the allegations.
The woman had not plotted any revenge in the real world, the official said.

She has not yet been formally charged, but if convicted could face a prison term of up to five years or a fine up to $5,000.
Players in "Maple Story" raise and manipulate digital images called "avatars" that represent themselves, while engaging in relationships, social activities and fighting against monsters and other obstacles.
The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married, and killed the character. The man complained to police when he discovered that his beloved online avatar was dead.

What a sad world we live in:csad: First that the lady kills her online husband...and second that the guy complained that he lost an online character and now the woman faces a fine and jail time:boba:

That doesn't seem like hacking if she had the password and stuff

Articles like these make me feel better about my gaming

I was just done reading that article from Yahoo! before I logged on. I live among the crazies and I LOVE it! I don't think there's anyone in the world who takes video gaming as seriously as those from the land of the rising sun.

She killed his beloved avatar... :csad:

What is with the Japanese? Wasn't there a story recently of some 30 year old woman killing some family member(s)?

Yea they are all crazy. I see on the news a few years ago that Japan has actually opened rehab clinics for addiction to gaming.
They also love really, really weird cartoons and films. Some of the Manga from there is soooo F'd up.

Picture of Maple Story:

I don't even know what is going on in that picture...

Yea that doesn't look like a game of any sort. It just looks like a jumbled mess.

I think the words "It's just the internet" are appropriate at this time.

It's funny if people take any online drama into the real world.
