John Carpenter is getting back behind the camera for another feature next month. That's when shooting begins in Spokane, Washington on The Ward, a film first announced in February when All the Boys Love Mandy Lane star Amber Heard signed aboard.

Casting continues with Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th) now locked to star opposite Heard in the psychological horror thriller. The story follows a girl (Heard) who is admitted to a psychiatric ward, meets other girls there with distinct personalities and discovers a mysterious girl haunting the halls at night.

According to THR, Panabaker plays "a patient in the institution, a snobbish girl who flirts with orderlies and faces electroshock therapy." Mamie Gummer is also set to appear in the film as a patient.

Echo Lake Entertainment and A Bigger Boat are producing based on a script by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen. Jim Agnew and Sean Keller were called in for rewrites. The pair also penned Dario Argento's Giallo.

Shes getting quite the rep for Horror movies. Along with F13 2009, The Crazies and now this. And Amber Heard isn't bad either.:yay:

I'm really interested with what Carpenter has in store. It must of been something interesting for him to come out of semi-retirement. And by semi-retirement, I mean being a lazy bum.

It's about damn time Carpenter makes another film!

Lets hope it's better than Ghosts of Mars. :(

Didn't make or was gonna make a film with Nic Cage called Riot?

Never heard of it. Just looked it up and it might come out next year. After doing the Masters of Horror short "Cigarette Burns"(just about the best one hands down across all seasons), as someone else above mentioned he almost seemed like he had retired.

There was something about a prison he was going to make, as well as LA Gothic. But hey, I'm just happy to have the best genre filmmaker ever back doing his thing.

The prison one your talking about is what TAC mentioned, the film called Riot. A kid gets sent to a prison on one of those 'scared straight' programs and while he's there a full blown jail riot happens and Nic Cage's character who is a lifer decides to help protect the kid. Sounds kind of cool, especially with Carpenter making it.

Gives me vibes of the jail riot in Natural Born Killers mixed with Carpenter's original Assault on Precinct 13.

Although sometimes when Carpenter tries to get a AOP13 vibe it works out badly.

I still wish he and Kurt Russell would hurry up and make Escape from Earth.

Which films come to mind when you say he trys to get a AOP13 vibe? That was one of his earliest films so I didn't mind the low budget. I still think that movie is fun and entertaining, I enjoyed it more than the remake. By the way..."you got a smoke?" :)

I was thinking Ghosts of Mars in particular...

And, "I dont give a **** about your president!" :cwink:

Sweet. I'm not terribly captured by the premise, but the thought of seeing a brand spanking new Carpenter film in the cinema has already guranteed my ticket.

Me too. And seeing how age doesn't really seem to have a grip on him, Russell could probably still totally pull off Plissken imo. Also I didn't know they were going to call it Escape from Earth. I hope it happens.

Bring back the magic Mr. Carpenter!

I'm gonna bump this corpse of a thread...

Firstly, there's now a trailer:

and also, in the UK, it's getting released on Friday 21st of January, so less than a week! I'll be honest, I've yet to find a cinema that's showing it, so I doubt I'm gonna get to see it in theatres. :csad:

looks pretty cool, looking forward to it, out of the classic horror directors, i always liked carpenter the best, he just seems more versatile.

If Stallone and some of those other guys like Dolph can get back into it, Russell sure as hell can. I didn't like LA all that much but would still welcome another Escape film.

As for the trailer, looks pretty good I guess, for another ghost movie. C'mon Carpenter, don't let me down. He needs to make up for that **** Ghost of Mars film.
