DreamWorks Pictures has hired newcomer Dan Mazeau to rewrite an untitled action film about lunar colonization that is slated to star Jake Gyllenhaal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Doug Liman (Jumper, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Bourne Identity), who will direct the film, wrote an original screenplay with John Hamburg (Along Came Polly). Black Hawk Down author Mark Bowden revamped that script.

Now Mazeau is on board to try to bring it in for a landing with a different take "based on an original story by Liman, Bowden and Simon Kinberg."

Former Paramount co-president of production Alli Shearmur will produce with writer/producer Kinberg and Liman. Dave Bartis is executive producing.

Big fan of Liman and Jake is an excellent actor, this has potential.

Another collaboration with Kinberg? Count me in. Jumper was fantastic.

I wasn't too ecstatic about Jumper, but Gyllenhaal is a great actor.

A few months back, it was reported that Paramount may be eyeing director Doug Liman's long-in-development "untitled moon movie" Luna, and according to Variety, it's now official and the film is greenlit and put on the fast-track at Paramount Pictures with David Ellison's Skydance Pictures and New Regency onboard to co-financing.

Liman has been developing the film for a long time--in fact, he spoke to ComingSoon.net about it both around the time of Jumper and again when we interviewed him for Fair Play--writing an original draft with John Hamburg then reworking it with Simon Kinberg, who will co-produce the film with Allison Shearmur.

Originally, Jake Gyllenhaal was attached to star in the movie about renegade scientists who build a spaceship from spare parts to steal an energy source from the moon, but Liman has meeting with the likes of Bradley Cooper, Chris Evans and Andrew Garfield. As it's now expected to be the director's next project, we can probably expect some casting announcements soon.

sounds pretty cool. aside from hayden christienson, i enjoyed jumper, the directing definitely wasn't the problem with that movie.

I hated Jumper. But the Bourne Identity & Mr. & Mrs. Smith were good. I guess it'll depend much on the cast.

Liman was to direct the space heist movie "Luna" at Paramount Pictures. Co-financier Skydance however has dropped out of the big-budget project so Paramount has abandoned it.

I hope they get Chris Evans back
Tom Cruise is set to re-team with director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) once again.

The duo previously worked together on 2014’s sci-fi time-looper Edge of Tomorrow and the cartel thriller Mena, which arrives in theaters next January, and will collaborate once again for Liman’s long-gestating sci-fi film Luna Park (previously known as Luna). Variety reports that Cruise will join Liman on the project with an eye to star in the feature dependent on the next draft of the script.

The film follows a group of renegade former space employees who travel the world, stealing the equipment they need to travel back to the moon to acquire an energy source.

Liman first tried to get the project off the ground back in 2014 with Jake Gyllenhaal attached as the lead. When Gyllenhall fell of the project, Liman met with a number of other actors for the project including Chris Pine and Andrew Garfield. Luna Park was greenlit at Paramount in 2011, but the studio pulled the plug on production when financier Skydance dropped out due to a skyrocketing budget. It’s unclear at this time if the project will remain with Paramount and Skydance, but given Cruise’s good relationship with the studios after the massive success of Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, it’s a likely partnership.

Cruise is keen to develop good working relationships with directors that lead to multiple collaborations, most recently demonstrated with his Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie, who worked with Cruise twice before on Valkyrie and Jack Reacher before Cruise selected him for the latest installment in the superspy franchise.

No word on when Luna Park would head into production, as Cruise is about to kick off Jack Reacher 2, which will reunite him with his Last Samurai director Edward Zwick. After that, Cruise is slated to head into the next Mission Impossible sequel.

Cruise's "Luna Park" May Shoot Before M:I-6?

By Garth Franklin Tuesday October 27th 2015 11:42AM
"Wonder Woman" and "Pan" scribe Jason Fuchs has been set to pen the latest draft of "Edge of Tomorrow" actor Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman's sci-fi actioner "Luna Park" at Paramount and Skydance.
The story revolves around a group of renegade employees who venture to the moon to steal an energy source. Cruise and Liman, who recently wrapped the period drug thriller "Mena," have been considering the film for some time.
If all goes well, Cruise will try and squeeze filming of 'Luna' in between the end of filming on the currently shooting "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" and the sixth "Mission: Impossible" film which is due to begin shooting next Summer.
