Did anyone else love Paul Pope's story in the 45th anniversary Fantastic Four?

I didn't think he did Marvel stuff, and it's great to see how colour changes his work!

(On a related note: What other "non-mainstream" artists have done MArvel stuff in the past? Any other Pope-drawn stories?)

I also noticed Craig Thompson did a guest stint in Marvel Team-Up, which is really interesting.

Paul Pope is amazing. I loved his Heavy Liquid mini a few years back. I know that's he's done some Batman stuff as well.

As far as other "indie" artists doing Marvel stuff, Jim Mahfood does stuff here and there. Also, Cory Walker (best known for Invincible) just did a fill in on Ant-Man. A really good place for indie artists used to be Ultimate Marvel Team-Up. I remember seeing Jacen Burrows, Terry Moore and Chynna Clugston-Major among others on that particular book.

the sturm fantastic four unstable molecules story was one of the best things marvel ever did and how it has been almost forgotten is criminal.

Is the issue still out? because I'll buy anyting Paul Pope does.

It's actually something I miss about the jemas era marvel, the willingness to let indie creators do their thing.

I don't know if was Jemas as much as it was Bendis wanting to work with his friends.

Though there was probably an element of that in UMTU, need to remember bendis was indie back then.

Don't think he had much to do with sturm or bagge getting work either.

Well, Marvel's always let "indie" writers take over. Look at Matt Fraction, Robert Kirkman and Mike Oeming. I see your point about the artists, though. Although I believe Marvel and Peter Bagge aren't on the best of turns right now.

Thanks for info on Unstable Molecules, I had never heard of it but just ordered a copy off Amazon. (Sounds really, really cool.)

About indie creators: Should Marvel have a publishing branch that deals with non-superhero stuff? Its equivalent of Vertigo?

They do. It's called "Icon", and it's pretty small. Criminal and Powers are, I think, the only ongoing titles.

Kabuki too, whenever Mack decides to ****ing do it.

Oh, he moved that over there? I didn't realize. I don't think I've ever mentioned it, but David Mack lives less than 5 minutes away from me.

Go over and tell him to hurry his ass up then.

That's pretty cool. I'm interested to see what Paul Pope's Spider-Man looks like I'm going to have to go pick that book up next time I hit the comic shop.

It's funny, Paul Pope's Spider-Man looks like there's a bit of "slack" in the suit, because of the wiggly lines.

Lots of life on the page, I love it!
