PC Marketplace: Steam, Epic, GOG, and More!

17th anniversary sale over at GOG and they finally added Rise and Shadow from the TR Survivor trilogy (TR2013 has already been available for some years).

One of the biggest games this year is now on GOG too in case you missed the memo.

Bad news for Valve. The government is going after them for radicalizing violent actors in America. And I'm guessing we know which kind of games they're going after.

And based on their tease on Friday, Silent Hill f will be tomorrow's surprise.

You were right.

Well, the tease was not hard to decipher. :hehe: It was either that or Ghost of Tsushima (or an obscure 90s game).

When they teased Expedition 33, everyone knew it would be that.

The upside of playing less games is, it was really easy to ditch Steam for DRM-free only. Slowly chipping away at my backlog of old games.

I rarely buy games on Steam nowadays except for online coop games and indies. For the latter, I will gladly double-dip if they end up on GOG. But yeah, I try to buy on GOG as much as possible or patiently wait until they show up there (Sony, I'm still waiting for the Spidey games).

Unfortunately, few AAA devs/pubs release on GOG due to the DRM-free philosophy of the storefront. :csad:

I have too many games I haven't played yet and a bunch I keep replaying. If a game is not on GOG, then I'll just keep my money at this point. Only double-dipped twice (Sleeping Dogs and Fallout4); there's definitely some games I'd buy again on GOG, but I'm not holding my breath.

I just realized I have The Evil Within 2 on GOG. I don't remember buying that.

New rule: before buying 1 game, finish 2 games I already own. (So, never, I guess.)

The deluge continues. How anyone can be bothered to wade through all that to find something worthwhile I don't know.

I reckon a majority of those are AI slops or just bad games.

Do you have Amazon Prime? With Prime Gaming, they give free games and you probably got TEW2 via that. I have it in my library and I too have no memory of actually buying it... :hehe:

I don't, actually. Maybe I got it in a bundle with the first game? And didn't realize? Somehow that's worse :funny:

I wouldn't mind some curation, instead of digital stores turning into a dump. Just because they have 'infinite' shelf space doesn't mean they have to use it.

More than half of developers feel they rely too heavily on Steam to distribute their games, with 72% believing the platform has a monopoly on the PC games market.
The independent study, conducted by Atomik Research, surveyed 306 industry executives across the UK and USA between May 18 and May 22, 2025.

75% of respondents were senior managers of C-suite level, with 77% from studios with more than 50 employees.

The study found that for the majority of studios, Steam accounts for over 75% of revenue.
However, it also noted that developers have started utilising other platforms including the Epic Game Store and the Xbox PC Games store.

Almost half of those surveyed (48%) have distributed a title to both stores, while 10% have used GOG and 8% have used Itch.io.

Market leader != monopoly
