I've also heard that the earth's axis will tilt and that will cause major catastrophes on the planet in 2012. Damn that's not looking like a good year for us.

The first episode of "The Universe: Season One" is about The Sun and talks for a bit about this. It really is pretty terrifying. Imagine all electrical devices on the planet suddenly being fried...that'll cause some HUGE problems for all of us!
