A 26-year-old Phoenix man accidentally killed himself early Sunday while explaining gun safety to two Sierra Vista residents.
Samuel Benally Jr. was at an apartment on West Tacoma Street when he said guns should be kept unloaded because people could point them at their heads, said Sierra Vista police Sgt. Brett Mitchell.
Benally then demonstrated by putting his own 9mm Ruger, which he believed to be unloaded, to his head and firing it, Mitchell said.

Benally was flown to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Mitchell said.
An investigation is ongoing, but police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, Mitchell said.

This better not turn into an anti-gun thread, because it is quite obvious it is this dumb asses fault, and his alone. Darwin Award winner right there.

And the gene pool just got skimmed...

hahahahahahahahaha, that is great. I really don't know what is wrong with people but man, that's funnier then anything the Zucker Brothers have come up with in years

[Alanis] And isn't it ironic? Don't you think? [/Alanis]

He was just trying to use a visual aid.

Well Im sure they got the point and will probably NEVER do what he did.

Freaking unreal. You dont put your life in jeopardy and break the first rule of firearm safety just to prove a point. That guy was clearly not a certified trainer, bc a true trainer would have NEVER done that. EVER.

I remember watching the movie Semi-Pro and the scene where they are passing the "unloaded" gun around and firing it at their own heads....I cringed!

Tragic, but too deliciously ironic to not laugh at.

reminds me of a video i saw some time ago of a gun safety instructor explaining the importance of having the safety on and then shooting himself in the leg.

Was that in a classroom full of students?
If so, that was a DEA agent, if I remember correctly.

Funny, every gun safety class I've ever been in strictly taught:

Treat every gun as if its a loaded on, and do not point at anything unless your intent is to kill it.

That said, I did laugh.

Yeah thats what I pointed out earlier.
Apparently, this guy missed that class....oh, and the common sense class as well.

These "Darwin Awards" and "Gene pool Comments" remind me too much of the nazi idea that stupid people should be wiped out.
You've got it all wrong. Stupid people shouldn't be wiped out. However, if someone is stupid enough to accidentally kill themselves or otherwise prevent themselves from procreating, our gene pool will be a little less stupid for it.

Still, saying "Yay! the gene pool has less stupid people in it" just feels wrong. and it creeps me out.

You know what creeps me out, donkey shows

well maybe it doesn't creep me out but the fact that I'm not creeped out by it creeps me out
