This will help my xenophobia.

I don't understand your objections. Showers do use less water than baths, and Prince Charles doesn't cost the exchequer anything by just speaking.

yeah i mean all he is saying is have a shower, it's not like he's saying stop washing

I don't have a shower in my house tho, dam im going to be a smelly hobo

But you can't wash all your naughty pieces in 5 minutes. You'd have to be Zoom, the Reverse Flash to do it in that time frame.

Yes, you can. Just scrub hard with flannel and soap, under properly hot water.

What the is flannel?

I think he has a great idea.

The way it's worded though, it sounds like he's advocating only one 5 minute shower a week. 5 minutes just plain isn't long enough to be properly cleansed. 5 minutes is pretty much only long enough to wash your armpits and junk, but that's not enough. Your entire body gets sweat, and sweat is what bacteria feeds on and makes you stink. I mean, if you use an anti dandruff shampoo that you're supposed to leave in for 8-10 minutes, then you're SOL? I've always been told that 10-15 minutes is reasonable for a shower, but it's not exactly like most people keep a timer in their bathroom. We can't all live like we're on a submarine, I'm afraid. If we were going to do that, then we'd go by the "30 seconds of hot rinse, soap, 30 seconds of cold rinse"

But they made such a huge difference when they gave up teeth-brushing! :csad:

(I love yo teeth, Brits!)

****ing Royal Family. Biggest welfare collectors in the world yet somehow they are better than us

Actually, they're not. The revenue they produce through tourism outstrips the budget for the civil list by a long, long way. And you only think they are "better" than you because you have an inferiority complex. They couldn't give a toss.

I think we're all still waiting to hear how this is a "fail."

Don't you remember when a rep from the British Dental Association announced that brushing your teeth longer won't get them cleaner? What I think most of the people joking about this article is getting at is that it's fine and dandy to try and save water by showering instead of taking baths, but when Prince Charles says (what sounds like) everyone should take one 5 minute shower a week, he's saying it to an audience who many people feel shouldn't necessarily heed that advice. Let's just say, some might say it's akin to Americans complaining about an "anorexia epidemic" when it's the opposite that America should be worried about. :cwink:

I fail to see what's wrong with what Charles said. He didn't tell people to stop washing themselves, he just suggested switching to showers instead of baths.

I saw this thread and was immediately prepared to come at it with a smarmy british teeth gag, but you ****ers beat me to it. Goddamn you, my night is ruined.

So, you are implying that you consider Brits to be unhygienic. Nothing in the article you linked us to gives any support to that. It is a negative stereotype with which I am unfamiliar. It must, therefore, just be your own view.

May I ask why?

...so you're telling me that the real fail here is your lack of reading comprehension?

Your desire to trade real input for unnecessary jabs notwithstanding, you have to admit the quote isn't exactly worded properly. The interpretation is understandable.

replaced one bath a week with a five-minute shower

I can see people asking "Is he saying that out of all the baths you take in a week, trade one of them for a shower? Or is he saying that you should only wash once a week?"

Another one:

His other ideas for small steps to save the planet include 'loving your leftovers

I can TOTALLY see someone reading that and thinking the Prince of Wales is saying everyone should get lewd with their food.

This debate makes me wonder just how often and how long one needs to bathe for in order to maintain their health, without regards for social stigmas and norms.

That's actually an interesting thought.
