Just a couple quick questions;

1) Does the PS3 provide any substatial 'graphical upgrade' when playing PSX or PS2 games? I know the PS2 could smoothe out textures of PSX games

2) Has anyone had any problems with it's backwards compatibility since the latest models were released after Feb of this year?

Congratulations on getting your PS3.

1) Yes, update 1.81 upscales PS/PS2 games and DVDs.

2) No, if there were problem people would be complaining about it.:woot:

Upscaleing...I presume that has something to do with HD TV's and such right? If thats the case, bummer. I don't have a HDTV yet (I have a nice, large 40 inch TV ..but no HD)

Is there a summer deal where you get five Blue-ray movies and a controller free with the purchase of a PS3? I must know!!!

Yes there is. I'll try and track down the details.

Anyway, The PS3 doesn't give any substantial boost the PS1/2 games, but it does upscale them. Loading will be faster because of the Blu Ray drive being faster, and it is using higher quality Ram, so if a game was struggling with read speeds of ram seek time or limitations any problems from that sort of thing will be gone.

There is also a PS1/2 Softening option you can select, it doesn't smear out the image but seems to apply extra AA to the image or something. It's totally up to you if you want that on or not.

Here you go

If you're a fan of promotional deals that land you free stuff, than you had best pay attention. The format war has already swung heavily in favor of Blu-Ray, and Sony is looking to hammer another nail into HD-DVD's coffin. The Blu-Ray Disc Association (BDA) is preparing a great offer for consumers still hemming and hawing about purchasing a Blu-Ray player (and yes, this includes the PS3).

If you buy a Blu-Ray player (YES, it includes the PS3!) between July 1 and September 30, you will automatically qualify to receive 5 Blu-Ray movies absolutely free. That's right, no cost. Now, this can be combined with any existing retail offers, like the 5 free Blu-Ray movies you get with the purchase of the Panasonic DMP-BD10A, which means you could feasibly get 10 free Blu-Ray discs!

And it doesn't end there. If you decide on the PS3 as your Blu-Ray player, the Sony Style stores are offering another special promotion: pick up your PS3, two games, and an extra controller at Sony Style between now and July 8, and you'll get a $50 gift card. Any other rebate information can be found at bluraysavings.com (site not up yet), so you're running out of excuses to avoid placing a Blu-Ray player in your entertainment center.

The Softening option I found, and in the menu its called "Smooth" or something. I tried it and it seems to do what the PS2 did to PS1 games. It seems to take the jaggies away, and smoothing the textures. It really makes games look nice. For instance, although I LOVED Shadow of the Colossus, it was one jaggie, pixled mess graphically. However, on the PS3 with the Smooth option enabled, it looks superb! Same with the God of War games and such. I'm quite pleased.

OMG... Thank you Havok83. I live in Texas, so I doubt there are any Sony style stores I can go to, but I got money for circuit city, so yeah. If you're waiting for the pricedrop like me, then you might as well do it now, cuz $125 is more than $!100!!! Hey Zenien, has this driven up sales?

Im not just waiting for price drop. Im waiting for more info on rumble which I really do feel will be implemented by the end of the year. When I get a PS3, I will also have to get an HDTV so it will be at least $1500 for me, which I can do right now, but Im not ready to drop that much

I dont think Zen would know if its driven up sales yet bc it only got implemented this week, 3 days ago. Is it even being advertised? I got the info in an email.

bump

I don't think it has been advertised all that much. With the price drop AND this skeetastic deal, PS3 sales are gonna go through the roof July, August, and September. And that's my official prediction, lol. Are any awesome games coming out in those months? Rumble better come before August 30th, cuz that'll be my deadline. Can anyone post a list of BR movies? I want to know if 28 Days Later is on it.
