Question About Episode 3.17 - Legacy

I saw this episode today on HDNet and it got me wondering about a few things. First, it was great to watch Christopher Reeve as Dr. Swann again but it was also sad since it was his last apperance. Did Gough & Millar ever reveal what else they planned to do with the character? They ended the episode on a cliffhanger and we never really got a true resolution. My other question involves Jonathan Kent. For a guy who recently had heart surgery you'd think he would receive more damage from falling off the roof and getting into a fight with Lionel Luthor. I know this is a science fiction show, but his character was almost superhuman. Shouldn't he have still be in recovery?

i dont think they id ever say what they wanted to do with the swann character after reeve died. its been a long time so i dont recall myself. maybe someone else does. as to the jonathan kent question, they have always been funky with folks getting hurt/or not hurt alot from this or that. so i leave it as that.

The ending with Swann having the key gave the impression that they had bigger things planned for season 4. In the episode, Swann tells Clark that perhaps he wasn't ready to learn about his heritage and that he was disappointed with some of his recent activities. Perhaps he was going to test him or something. Then, there was the business involving Lionel. It was unclear how he was going to help Lionel with the cave business.

I believe the plan originally was to have Swann give the key back to Clark, but sadly Reeve died before that could happen...

As it was, they weren't entirely happy with Margot Kidder, who played Swann's assistant and implied lover. If IRC she lambasted them in an interview or two and didn't get asked back to reprise her role.

I think after Reeve died, they were originally going to have her take his place in a way, but because of whatever falling out that had happened when the time came for Clark to get that key back in Season 4, he got it in the mail after (I think) learning about Swann's death instead of Margot's character delivering it to him.

She didn't return because she did not care for how TPTB were going to handle Chris Reeves/Dr. Swann's death on the show.

Q: What's happening with "Smallville"? Are you going to reprise your role as Dr. Bridgette Crosby?

A: No, we had a contract problem and so I will not be returning. They offered me a part and then, for various reasons, I ended up saying "no".

A: You did? (surprised). How come?

Q: Just from some things I'd been reading on the internet about how they were going to deal with Dr. Swann's death.

A: It was a little tacky. Don't you think?

Q: Yes, I think you can say that.

A: I thought it was quite exploitive and I said so, but they (the Producers) didn't see it that way. I mean, Christopher was my friend so to go on and do a scene where I announce his death on "Smallville" so that they can get publicity, it just seemed to me to be exploitive, personally. Probably didn't to other people and so it just didn't work. If you're going to get me to be exploitive, you're going to have to pay me an awful lot of money. (laughing).

Well probably was money but also story as the interview said she probably didn't like how they orignally going to have swann die and all. Since they were good friends and all.
