RAM question

Ok, so last week i stuck in a pair of 512`s to get a GIG of RAM, which blew my motherboard (faulty sticks) so i had to buy a new one and a new CPU (fun ) anyway thats all fixed now and the Gig is in but i have one extra RAM slot. So can i mix diffrent memory speeds??, the ones in at the mo are PC400 and i have a 256 which is a PC333 can i put in diffrent Mhz speeds of memory or will this be bad for my brand new motherboard

Depends on your motherboard, to be honest. Some will let you mix speeds and some won't. Check your specs.

Hmmmm just says goes to 3Gb (my old one was 2gb) and supports PC3200 2700 and 1600 I think it can mix it, but i will wait a few months and just buy another Gig and have 2gb over three slots, problem is this mother board is already outdated because i had to buy one with a AGP slot on it, only got my graphics card a year ago and im not shelling out for another top end PCI one!

Did you know the price of memory over here has sky rocketed for some reason (for DDR anyway), how lame is that.

Probably better not to mix it, anyway. Most likely it would have slowed all RAM in your system to the clock speed of the slowest memory in the system which would not be cool.

There's no reason for memory prices to go up that I can think of, at least in terms of production and availability. Sounds like someone's getting rich.

Frankly, this is the first time I ever heard a motherboard blows up after you install RAM. Must be improper handling. Regarding your RAM problem, you might be able to do so. Most modern motherboards are able to support mixed speed RAM (as long as it is on the same type). However, I could be wrong, you need to refer to the manual. Don't throw away your motherboard's manual. You might not be able to understand, but a computer technician would need it.

Okay, forget about getting the RAM. My humble advice - get a motherboard that supports PCI-E, don't bother getting a motherboard that comes with AGP slot. You'll get kick-ass quality with PCI-E

And sell your AGP too! You won't need that.
