A 3D Remake of "Re-Animator" In The Works
By Garth Franklin Monday March 2nd 2009 05:22AM

Producer Ray Haboush is developing a 3D remake of Stuart Gordon's 1985 horror/sci-fi/black comedy cult classic "Re-Animator" says ShockTillYouDrop.com.

Brian Yuzna, producer of the original film and director of its sequels, will develop the project along with Haboush for his Automatic Media and Halcyon International Pictures companies.

Based on a story by legendary horror author H.P. Lovecraft, the acclaimed original follows Dr. Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs), a doctor expelled from a Swiss institute who moves to New England to continue his experiments to perfect a formula to revive the dead.

No word as yet if Combs would return to reprise his role or cameo.

I really wanted to see House of the Re-Animator with William H. Macy, this will probably just be poppycock.

Do you think they could get away with making it the same way? It's gonna be 3D so that loses the grittyness I reckon in favour of shiny blood splashes at the screen. I don't even think it'd sell these days. It's too...cult. It's not like remaking Nightmare on Elm Street. And I reckon Jeffery Combs is too old for the lead role at least but a scene like the beginning of the first re-animator'd work...well okay, you didn't see the other doctor much in the first one but you get the idea....handing down the serum?

ew, herbert west was one of lovecraft's less good stories, daaamnn!!! they should do another thing!! i would love to see an at the mountains of madness movie

NO ! The Jeff Combs & Stuart Gordon version is a classic , please dont do this!

if they HAD to remake it, i'd love to see it as a black & white hammer horror style film, like Gordon originally wanted to do it. Also, it would have to be more faithful to the story. As much as i like Gordon's film, i think it really misses the point of the story.

Re-Animator is on par with the Evil Dead, campy fun but very good when you look it it objectively from afar. Both of these are classics and should never be touched.
