Read this, please. It's a sad fact about our society.

who cares, i know some teachers who don't deserve to be teaching at all. i had a teacher in the 7th for english i learned nothing the entire year. all he did was give us a packet full of words and we had to look up the definitions......that was all we did!!! and he sat aty his desk eating food in front of us. we always poked fun at how he did'nt teach us literature, he taught us how to eat.

Spoken like a true prophet.

Yes! Yes!! YES!!!

It's not because there no prayer in school (there is no need to troll to make your point, Wilhelm) but the teachers who were taught in school, use the same techniques to their students.

Schools are failing because the students are not motivated.

Students are not motivated because the teachers, themselves, are not motivated.

They believe a good grade, GPA, test score will determine how sucessful you are in life--how much money you'll make. That's why students cheat. Because the government officials puts emphasize tests, that teachs you nothing (useful) in your future. :down

Everyone one of those teachers who demanded higher wages--by not teaching--should be fired. :down

America needs a workforce, not thinkers. Education is wasted on the masses.

I agree. And, the biggest shock I recieved in college was that some teachers don't care about grades. I had teachers in college who said, "I don't care about grades. I just want you to prove to me that you know what you're doing. Cause if you become a doctor and make a mistake that'll cost someone's life I don't want them thinking, 'I wonder who taught that moron.' "

The solution here is to privatize the education system and teachers will make what they deserve.

Good teachers will make good pay and bad teachers won't make as much.

exactly. but in some places its hard to do that because of teacher unions.

Hence, the real problem of education in America.

Its not sad, if only more teachers were actually good. Sadly the real good teachers have to pay for this unfairly. This is why I think we should follow the belgium school system were the good teachers are paid fairly and well and the crappy ones are payed crapily (if thats a word)

most teachers get paid more than they deserve anyway. with all this **** we hear about low test scores, why should they be getting pay raises?

I think private schools are worse since the kids won't be exposed to the real world. Private schools are usually rich kids and religious kids. Yeah, I'm sure that'll prepare them for the real world.

I've attended Catholic school for 17 years of my life and I'm handling the "real world" just fine. If anything, I'm better suited to deal with the dummies in our society.

It's not about the damn tests. It's about teaching a child to love to learn. That is the most important thing in the education system. Not to overly stress them out with meaningless tests. I mean, what do the tests really say about how they'll do in life? Who cares if you can name every President in order? Who cares if you can rattle off every mathmatical formula? Nobody. Most of the students won't be tested on a damn thing that they'll do in the real world. And the students who go into Math, History, Science or English will excell on those tests anyway. So don't give me any of your **** about low test scores.

OH BOO FREAKING HOO!!!

I'm sick of teachers thinking that just because they are teachers they are the best thing in the world. Get over yourself... Teacher Unions suck.

They're not the best thing in the world but the fact that the best teacher makes less than the worse starting NFL player; we have ourselves a problem.

People hate paying for necessities. That's human nature.

Umm teachers do a lot less work than McDonald's employees, with summer breaks and all, and they might derive some joy from their jobs, so McDonald's workers should be able to make more money. Also, no teacher can make me those delicious fries

I know what you're saying. I had a math teacher who did nothing but talk about her personal life and her favorite TV shows. But I had others that were good. My economics/government teacher (who was a conservative minded libertarian) stressed hard work and personal responsibility). I had good history teachers. I had a good math teacher in 11th grade.

The responsibility also falls on the student. Schools lack disipline and motivation these days. My school was a failure at disipline. They would punish people over stupid things such as posessing a coffee mug and every year they would take away more and more priviliges from the students with no proof of someone doing something. One time my friend and I got into a fight but we were no longer mad at each other because the "Dean" tried to come off that he was so tough and authoritative even though he was a little b***h. We just walked back to class laughing like nothing happened.

I think that instead of focusing on test scores. We need to centralize education like most industrialized nations. Put disipline in schools and remotivate schools. Focus on the knowledge not a test at the end of the year. Have everyone in the country learn the same thing instead of one state teaching something and another state teaching something else.

Get rid of all teachers, where does that leave society? Ponder that one...

We'd all be sports players and make a ridiculous and totally undeserving amount of money. Yay

If everyone was a sports player and getting payed crazy amounts of money, the value would ultimately go down. But yeah, with out teachers there'd be no thinkers in the world. It would all be labor. And who'd teach the laborers to work? Certainly not teachers, because there's no need for them. :whatever:

The employess always work harder than the managers or at least, just as hard, yet those managers get paid 3 times more for a very small or no difference in education and experience.
