Rebel Wilson to remake Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

This will not end well for the internet, the filmmakers, or anyone

So... Not to be labeled a sexist which I know I will be... It's obvious that Hollywood's idea of making more films about women is largely not original films, but remakes.... Great. (sarcastic).

HOLLYWOOD SUIT 1: We need more films about women.
HOLLYWOOD SUIT 2: To show how progressive and hip we are? I like that.
HOLLYWOOD SUIT 1: We should seek out original properties from women who really have something original they want to say.
HOLLYWOOD SUIT 2: No. Too risky. I know. We're making remakes like they're going out of style right? Let's just gender swap all of them! They'll say how progressive we're being and we'll still be putting out remakes just this time we'll avoid the remake stigma!
HOLLYWOOD SUIT 1: With original ideas, women can finally have a voice in Hollywood potentially.
HOLLYWOOD SUIT 2: Not needed, people will see gender swap remakes as progressive. Why risk money on an original film from women when we can take the easy less risky way out and reap the profits that way?

These gender swap remakes AREN'T progressive. More original films, fully bringing new exciting ideas from women filmmakers are. Seeking out speculative scripts from women writers is. Look at Moms - original, risky, making a ton of money. We should aim to have more original films with female protagonists that allow women filmmakers to enter Hollywood with original and exciting ideas. They're creating the illusion of being progressive through slight of hand hiding that they still don't want to change the old ways. If they did, we'd be getting a slew of original exciting films from women filmmakers so more can break into Hollywood instead. Remakes are one thing and it would be okay, BUT there's visibily and clearly no balance going on with this showing what their hand really is. Ask yourself why a stream of news of gender swapped remakes and very little to no news on original female films coming to light (hell it even seems like female driven book franchises are fading away from cinemas). Where is the opportunity for women filmmakers to break in? You can say the same thing happens to men driven films, but when that's the corner stone of the marketplace you're at the very least getting MANY original films focusing on men characters - so there's undoubtedly MANY original films focusing on women from women that these same "progressive" suits are passing up in lieu of making even more remakes.

I guess it's just hard knowing and seeing many talented filmmaker friends and mentors within studio walls seeing they're passing them up and original ideas up in favor of all of this. And that's just the women I personally know trying to break in, so there's many of them and original ideas being avoided. While there's not many male oriented original films being made either, I'm pretty sure the number of original films featuring male protagonists equals the number of all female protagonist films being made overall and hitting theaters on a yearly basis. It just makes me sick seeing they're going in this route more knowing and seeing what they're passing over in lieu of.

As with any film, if I like the trailer, I will check it out.

Rebel Wilson replacing Steve Martin/Michael Caine?

Well that's not a downgrade at all...

I like quite like the original, and have no strong feelings about this news one way or another.

I like the original film and frankly think you could do a gender swap version and have it come out fine... But Rebel Wilson? I know people like that singing film she was in but... Yeah, I just don't get the appeal and I don't get studios trying to make her "happen". I understand Melissa Mcarthy's appeal and she's made me laugh many times. Wilson? Never even a chuckle.

I mean the concept of two chicks trying to romantically get their claws in some silicon valley geek sounds funny, but you need the right actresses. Frankly I would pair Upton and Daddario again.

Pair....pun totally intended.

Say... Wasn't this sort of already done with Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewett?

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was fun, but stop calling it "the original". That movie was also a remake.

Photos of Anne filming scenes for the movie:

She's had some really cool outfits for her recent films.

The Hustle, the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, will no longer be rated R. The Classification and Rating Appeals Board has overturned the rating for the film, which is now rated PG-13 for crude sexual content and language. Wilson, who also produced the film, and MGM film group president Jon Glickman represented the project in the appeal.

No offense to Anne Hathaway, but Hathaway/Wilson is nowhere near Caine/Martin in terms of what the pair brings to the table. The closest equivalent would be Cate Blanchett and maybe Anne Hathaway in the Steve Martin role, or maybe Amy Poehler or Anna Kendrick.

These.

Wilson? Never even a chuckle.

Agreed 100% - would not go to see this film even if ticket was free cause my time is worth more.

Agreed.
