Currently working on a film project and only have access to a digital video camcorder. The mics that come built into most camcorders are not always the best for high quality audio-needy projects. Anybody know what I can use instead? Maybe a good external microphone with a boom and filter on it? Cost is for the most part not an option but it has to work with a (for now) technologically up-to-date digital camcorder.

Film project = video taping girls in gym locker room or changing room. :)

You can sometimes get a bit better sound out of the mic on a camcorder by putting a little piece of cloth over it (like a cut up piece of t-shirt) to act as a baffle and cut down on background and wind noise. But really, you'll need a directional mic or a mic that can clip onto your subject's lapel to pick up their speaking voice. Depends on what kind of movie you're trying to shoot, really.
