REMINDER - Comics delayed until Thursday because of July 4th

Thanks. I forgot about that the last holiday (forget what it was) and felt like a noob when I walked in the store.

actually, I think stores like it when people come in on a wednesday when books have been delayed. Because if everyone was aware and skipped, they'd do ZERO business that day. If people forget, and they come to the store anyway, they're at least likely to not want to leave with nothing and pick up a trade or some back issues, then come back later to get their weekly books anyway

Yep last holiday I stopped by like an idiot, and ALL back issues were like 30% off. It rocked. Needless to say, everyone one that day. ;)

Almost forgot about that.

Thanks for the heads up.

I suppose that is Friday for us then :(

Clever bit of business by the store.

More stores should do stuff like that.

"I'm here on the wrong day for my comics. Give me money off!!"

I assumed there wouldnt be a delay since comics ship on Monday anyway correct? No biggie, thanks for the heads up.

So... if you're saying that LCS's would do ZERO business on Wednesday IF EVERYONE WAS AWARE THAT THE COMICS ARE DELAYED, then why on Earth are you reminding everyone to stay away from their LCS's on Wednesday?

;)

dunno. Guess there's two sides to the coin and I'm just addressing both?

Do comic book stores get their shipments in the day before?
Do they get them in on tuesday sometime, so that wednessday they can stock the shelves?

none that I know of do. Every store I've ever known gets them Wednesday morning or afternoon.

In the old days before UPS, store employees had to actually go pick their books up at the post office themselves or have them dropped off at the crack of dawn. My LCS still has a mattress under the back office from those days for whatever employee would have to be there for them.

My comic book store doesnt get them until Wednesday afernoon like at 2 PM.

I was wondering because I knew that bookstores like Barnes & Noble, I belive, gets their shipment in a day before they announce it has arrived. Giving them a chance to stock the shelves I guess.
I thought maybe Comic stores did that too.

it's got something to do with the different distribution systems

I've heard the people at my LCS complain about certain magazines that they'd love to carry but it's pointless to since the way the Newsstand and Diamond distribution is set up for them, they're available at book stores and such a week before the comic shop would get them

Ive always felt like making a thread about the monopoly Diamond seems to have on the industry, maybe its time....maybe not.

God damnit, this is going to throw my whole week off, just like last time.

my Barnes & Noble doesn't even carry comics. Just trades. Kind of a bee eye tee cee aytch when my comic shop sells out of, like, a new Batman ish

Yeah my Barnes and Noble doesnt either. Borders has comics though even 52.
