Renfield

so will this be set in the same time period as the novel or will be reimagined into modern times?

This seems like such a random idea. Like, I can understand making a movie about Harker, Mina or Van Helsing. But Renfield? Do most people even know that character or care about him beyond being the guy who went crazy due to Dracula? He’s not even in the “iconic henchman” category the way Igor is. I feel like studios are just grasping onto any character they can think of in an order to give a “fresh take” on a story everyone already knows. Join us next week for Fortenbras: Denmark After Hamlet.

Still, I’ll see it for Cage and Hoult.

I did not think it was possible to want this movie even more. Cage doing Dracula is promising enough, but Cage doing Dracula through the lens of whatever-the-gonzo-**** James Wan had going on in Malignant?

IMO, out of all the supporting cast, Renfield is definitely one of the ones with the most story potential, after Van Helsing and Lucy. Familiars are a very under-utilized aspect of the vampire sub-genre.

Also, don't you be hating on my pitch for a Hamlet sequel, now! :o Fortinbras attempting to rule a castle haunted (literally and metaphorically) by past trauma is prime theatre!

That logo really has me wondering how much Universal-specific iconography they’ll be playing with here.

Movies about Harker, Mina and Van Helsing already exists, they are called "Dracula".

Renfield is the one whose story was pretty much already over when we meet him.

Well it’s a dark comedy so they can go anywhere with it really. And it sounds like it takes place in the modern day.

Count Dracula's lackey Renfield finds a new lease on life when he falls in love with Rebecca Quincy, a feisty traffic officer.

let memes begin…
(surprisingly looks good)

Stylish Nic Cage Dracula is all I've ever wanted.

Looks like he's channeling Christopher Lee with the Dracula look.
