Ridley Scott's Raised By Wolves on HBO Max

I kind of appreciate the premise that mankind was stupid enough to come up with a new religion that literally made everyone not buying it, into atheists and eventually destroying the planet because of it.
The Sol worshippers are religious extremists/fanatics. They remind me of the Necromongers from the Chronicles of Riddick. Their ideology is similar to the convert or die/prophercy stuff from that film.

My body wasn't ready for that season finale... :wow:

I really enjoyed the finale and if they are going in that direction next season than I'm even more excited, because that means we are definitely getting even more of an Alien/horror vibe. This show was filled with creepy moments, but damn I was not expecting that to happen lol.

I liked the finale, but I still don't know how to feel about that reveal... For a second I thought
that baby was going to be a xenomorph :D

Also that CGI at the end wasn't great, which was kind of jarring since the show looks pretty good in general.

I'm very curious to see where this all will go in season 2

Yeah, I found the tonal change rather effective, as it not only delivers on the general slow-burn approach of the show, but also sets up the second season nicely with that shocking twist. All in all, it was a finale that satisfies in the most riveting of ways and still manages to leave you wanting more.

It's not explosions every five minutes and fighting all the time. There is a bit of depth to it that I appreciate.
Although I thought Marcus became a bit of a cookie cutter moustache twirling villain in the end...!

But I do like it. And am pleased it has been renewed for a 2nd season.

In portraying a man suffering from deep psychosis, I actually found him rather convincing. Marcus isn't an over-the-top villain like the trope you describe; it's just that he's lost all touch w/ reality.

What an absolute disaster. This show totally lost me the past two episodes. :yuk: :wall:

Ridley Scott do like his android creating life stuff but after Prometheus/Covenant I'm not a fan of the idea, it felt like déjà-vu. Plus the baby looked too much like something that could have been in the aforementioned movies.
Then again, I'm an easy audience and it's scifi so I will keep watching.

Was it just me or did the helmets that Mother found (I think it was her) look like the ones that were in Prometheus? Same with the humanoid that attacked them.

I do wonder if they'll dive deeper into how the planet kind of makes you devolve at a certain point.

Yes, it looked like a small Space Jokey helmet.

I watched the first 3 episodes last year, with the mind to come back for the rest of the episodes later. Took me a while, I finished it last weekend. Phew.

The finale had me scratching my head. lol

But then straight away I noticed something. The episode title "The Beginning", the skeleton of a giant snake earlier in the episode and the living one in the last episode made me think of the Ouroboros:

Is the story backward? Will they be travelling to Earth and the snake will eventually come into the being as the one in the Biblical Garden of Eden alongside human Adam & Even (Mother & Father). lol

The title 'Raised by Wolves' & Mother / Father reminded me of the story of Romulus and Remus and the founding of Rome:

I had to check to make sure, indeed Mithraic & Sol God are based on real religion, specifically ancient Roman cult of Mithras which combined the two gods Sol & Mithras. Just look at the wiki page's image:

There is a snake biting bull's ball. Whew.

The youtuber, Alt Shift X even tried to explain these, lmao:

Ridley Scott does love his milk since Ash spewed forth from his neck in Alien. lol

Show started off very strong in the first 5 episodes but nosedived once the two groups met up and it turned into Lost complete with a messianic John Locke type of figure. Characters turn on a dime to suit whatever the scene/plot demands instead of properly the other way around. Its insanity is entertaining but like I said it’s only a great/good five episodes.

Christoffersen will play “Cleaver,” a devoted atheist soldier, veteran of the war on Earth, whose only friend is the super computer he has been sworn to protect.

Jones will play “Grandmother,” a god-like android, built thousands of years ago by members of the lost civilization that existed on Kepler 22b.

Santo will play “Vrille,” a fully humanoid android custom built to look and behave just as the real Vrille Pell did the year she committed suicide. Vrille is rebellious, impulsive, dark – and has an affection for rabbits and other small animals, which she likes to pet and hold when she is overtaxed. Though fairly stable, certain triggers cause Vrille to enter states of confusion, obsession and mania.

Harkness will play “Tamerlane,” an atheist army grunt soldier with a defiant personality. His early life was a horror – until he found his calling with the atheist army, fighting the Mithraic on Earth. But now that he’s a member of the burgeoning atheist colony on Kepler 22b he is expected to forget the hate he feels towards his enemy and accept a number of Mithraic as neighbors – an expectation which he violently rebels against.

Engelbrecht will play “Decima.” Highly educated, Decima was a prominent scientist/weapons developer on Earth who did a lot of immoral things in order to achieve success/domination in her field. She is notoriously ruthless – but still carries guilt – though she erased much of her guilty feelings with futuristic therapies she personally helped develop.

I am kind of worried that this is going to be one of those shows that gets canceled without giving us a proper ending... I don't know if the ratings are any good, but it seems to have no buzz at all.

Man, I thought season 1 finale was a jump the shark moment with the flying snake, but this week, we had someone turn into a tree? :funny:

Eh, the snake was worse for me just because of how fake it looked. I am curious to see where they're going with this, because I don't think it's going to be "Sol."

I also don't like how everyone conveniently moved to the other side of the planet. :whatever:

I thought this season started out pretty strong, but it got too weird and out there once it got to the middle portion and that finale was definitely weak sauce compared to the Season 1 finale.

I still have some interest in a Season 3, but at this point if this show does get cancelled for whatever reason I'm honestly not going to miss it because it honestly should be so much better.

There are so many interesting ideas at here and I liked that they delved more into the cosmic/body horror elements, but the writing/execution overall is just wonky at best for this show.

I don't mind a slow burn mystery but this is just getting aggravating.

I'd really lost interest in season 1, but decided to give it another chance with season 2 and it was miles better for me. Finales are not their strong point but at least this time around it wasn't a sloppy mess like the previous one. That's not to say that I'm not worried how all this is going to tie up later on, and I may lose interest again in the future, but I'm invested for now.
