Rime, which was confirmed yesterday for a May 2017 release across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, will be released physically in addition to digitally, retailer listings reveal.

Both Amazon (PS4, Xbox One) and Best Buy (PS4, Xbox One) are listing physical PlayStation 4 and Xbox One SKUs for $29.99. Amazon, specifically, lists a May 9 release date, though an official date has yet to be announced. A physical Switch SKU is likely also planned, however retailers probably won’t begin listing Switch games until after Nintendo’s January 12 event.

Tequila Works’ Rime Is Getting A Physical Release For PlayStation 4 And Xbox One. January 8, 2017 . 3:30pm

It has been confirmed that Rime will be getting a physical release on PS4 and Xbox One, and Tequila Works’ CEO says that the development team has remained true to the initial vision of the game.

In an earlier report, we shared that Tequila Works’ Rime, first revealed at 2013 Gamescom as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, would be coming to Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Now, it has been confirmed that Rime will also be getting a physical release on PS4 and Xbox One, while a retail release for the Switch is still in considerations.

MCVUK recently spoke with Raúl Rubio, CEO and creative director at Tequila Works, and asked him if the game has lived up to his initial vision for it. Rubio replied with the following:
“With RiME’s release now only a few months away the team is still working hard on adding the final touches to the game, but when I look back to when this journey began I feel we have remained true to our initial vision for the project and the original concept of living an adventure through the eyes of an eight year old child.”

Furthermore, Rubio also commented on how the additional workload of the extra platforms has affected the development team:
“It is true that bringing RiME to other platforms has meant additional workload for the team, but being able to share our vision with a wider audience makes that extra effort worth it. The team at Tequila Works is grateful to the belief Grey Box and Six Foot has shown in both RiME and the studio which has meant the game will now come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC in May.”

Rime will release sometime in May for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and the Nintendo Switch.

RIME’s Developers On The Game’s Replayability And The Prospect Of Future DLC . February 21, 2017 . 9:30am

Tequila Works, developers of the adventure and puzzle game Rime, recently spoke on topics including the game’s replayability as well as challenges they encountered during development.

Tequila Works, developers of the adventure and puzzle game Rime, recently spoke about their upcoming game on Wccftech.com. They touched on topics such as the game’s replayability as well as challenges they encountered during development.

When it comes to how many hours it will take to complete Rime, as well as its level of replayability, Lead Designer Kevin Sardà said the following:
“The duration of the game will largely depend on each player’s play style and how he or she would like to immerse into the exploration of the island and unlocking all the secrets it keeps. If if you really want to take your time and collect all the secrets, you might well end up in the 8-10 hours range , but it could take a couple hours fewer or a couple hours more. As for replayability, the story of RiME has a very well defined ending, which everybody will experience when they finish the game, but there is a good chance players might miss several secrets and collectibles in their first playthrough, and those items are not there as mere cosmetic additions or to artificially increase the time you spend in the game, but they offer deeper understanding about the story. We expect a good deal of players will revisit the island in order to get the whole picture!”

CEO & Creative Director Raúl Rubio commented on obstacles during development of the game, such as the challenges of exploring a world through the limits of a young child:
“In fact, in the last couple of years since we released RiME’s second trailer we have focused on returning to the game’s original vision, subtracting all the superfluous elements that weighted down the gameplay. Our objective when we initially conceived the game was to make the character live an exciting adventure through the eyes of an eight year old child, but that also means to embrace his limitations –such a young kid is should not be a warrior, wield a sword or outrun a flying predator! Thus, we dismissed several ideas that actually detracted from what we knew RiME was at heart, like scavenging resources to regain stamina.”

Lastly, when asked if Rime would have any DLC or post-launch content, Rubio said that they “do not have any plans for additional content for RiME at this moment.”

RiME will release in May 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Adventure game to be available both physically and digitally.

Rime-May-26-Dated.jpg

Rime will launch both physically and digitally for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 26 for $29.99 / €34.99 / £29.99, publisher Grey Box announced.

The Switch version will launch physically and digitally later this summer for $39.99 / €44.99 / £39.99. Grey Box did not mention why the Switch version costs more, but we’ve contacted the publisher for comment and are awaiting a response.

(Update: Here’s the response from Grey Box: “We set prices for our products based on the costs of development and publishing for each specific platform.”)

Here’s an overview of the game, via Grey Box:
Rime is a single-player puzzle adventure game about discovery, experienced through the eyes of a young boy who awakens on a mysterious island after shipwrecking off its coast. Players must navigate the island’s secrets by making use of light, sound, perspective and even time. Inspired by the rugged, sunbaked terrain of the Mediterranean coast, Rime paints its breathtaking world with a fusion of vibrant colors and moving musical undertones to set the stage for the deeply personal journey that awaits within.

A Renaissance of Video Gaming.

Recently, the Nintendo Switch was officially named the fastest selling console in Nintendo history. A number of developers spoke very well of the Switch before its official release, and in an interview with Polygon, Christian Svensson, Chief Operating Officer at Sixfoot, who is publishing Rime adds his enthusiasm about what the Switch means.
"The Wii U audience never hit the broad market that, for example, the Wii did. And I think that the Switch has the ability to recapture some of the Wii magic in a couple of different ways. But a lot of it has to do with the fact that it’s a 2-in-1 system. The fact that it is trying to be a portable and a home console all in one package — first of all, it’s an easy sell from a value for money family purchase standpoint. You know, I just think that if you looked at it only as a portable system, it’s probably the best portable that has ever been. And if you look at it as a home system, it’s capable, is probably the best way I’d put it. In that regard, I think the adoption is going to be broader than the Wii U was."
He goes on to explain how the improved development tools played a key role in third party support for the Switch, over the Wii U.
"Our reasons for [porting Rime] were we wanted to reach a broad audience, and it’s the type of game that feels like it belongs on a Nintendo platform. I don’t know that you could say that for every game out there. Everyone’s gotta have their own reasons for porting. From a technical perspective, the amount of work is not trivial. There are definitely easier platforms to get to. Without getting into details, a lot of it has to do with RAM limitations relative to the PS4 and Xbox One, as an example. So it’s a trickier — even notwithstanding processing differentials between those platforms. As far as why more people are doing it, here’s an obvious one: better support for certain engines. Obviously Unreal never existed on Wii U or 3DS, and it exists — or will more properly exist eventually — on Switch. … That’s a huge thing. I think there are certain tools that exist on Switch, for performance and optimization, that never existed on Nintendo platforms before. It’s a huge step forward on those fronts. So maybe that’s what’s giving developers a little more confidence to say, “You know what? We can figure this out. We’re not sort of feeling our way through the dark.”

Accessibility is a big focus.

After much uncertainty, Tequila Works' Puzzle Platformer, Rime is almost here. One of the ways that the developers (and publisher Grey Box) have been advertising the game is by putting out developer diaries which discuss a broad range of topics regarding the creation of the game. Earlier today, the third developer diary went live and gives a behind-the-scenes look at puzzle design, character creation, and game mechanics.

While it is a puzzle game, Rime isn't aiming to be the type of game that will challenge every neuron, as it focuses more on the flow of the experience rather than getting you stuck for an hour on one puzzle. Much of the game will be very traditional with your usual running, jumping, sprinting, and climbing mechanics, but the thing that will make it stand out is its use of sound. The player will be able to interact with objects that emit sound, and other similar mechanics will require a larger learning curve.

Tequila Works

Back in March, fans of Nintendo's latest console and open-world puzzle adventure games got some tough news: Tequila Works' highly anticipated indie title Rime would cost extra and arrive later on the Switch. Luckily for cash-strapped players who want to explore Rime's island environments on the go, a digital copy of the Switch port will now carry the same $29.99 price tag as the PS4 and Xbox One editions.

According to a blog post from publisher Grey Box, "additional development, manufacturing, and publishing costs" drove up the price on the Switch version, but they're hoping to make a bargain to keep prices in line across all platforms. Physical copies of the Nintendo version will still cost a cool $10 more due to the realities of putting out a packaged product, but Grey Box will also include a free code for David García's complete original soundtrack -- something that will also be sold separately online as a $10 download.
[YT]RMNOF-fY0CA[/YT]
Now for the bad news: although Rime will arrive on PS4, Xbox One and PC later this month on May 26th, there's still no official release date for either the physical or digital Switch versions. For that, Grey Box says they hope to make another Switch-related announcement "shortly."
