I think they wrote him out of continuity in Tales of the unexpected so that would explain this.

Actually there are going to be "Red" Lanterns. They're going to do a Corps for each of the spectrum. Green Lantern Corps (green for willpower), Sinestro Corps (yellow for fear), Star Sapphires (violet for love), and apparently red (my guess is rage), and don't be surprised to see blue, orange, and indigo.

I think it was at one of the recent cons (or even one of the sinestro corps issues) where Johns explained that in the spectrum of emotions and colors, green/willpower is the center of the spectrum, and that yellow/fear is one of the extremes that tips the balance typically held in place by a stong pressence of willpower in the universe. I wouldn't be suprised if the red lanterns end up being a corps that derives its strength from courage (the natural opposite to fear?). Plus red has been illustrated for centuries as the color based metaphor for passion, stength, courage, etc.

The same that the Sinestro Corps and the Star Saphires.

I don't know, I could kinda see Hal or Kyle flipping out over how many of their close lantern brothers died by Sinestros hand, and managed to overpower the ring, killing Sinestro. It could turn the ring Red, being full of anger, hate and rage, killing all the members of the Sinestro Corps, then he recruits some people that just sit atop the universe in waiting for when they're needed.

I Mean, that could be done pretty good as a 6series mini

Green Lantern #20. I know it's not red, it's the violet one the Zamarons just made since they deemed the star sapphires to be too uncontrollable and opted for a ring/lantern combo like the Guardians. The other one is, obviously, a yellow ring/lantern. Red is almost certainly one of the other colors.

Going by the visible color spectrum, it would go like

Red

Orange

Yellow -- Fear

Green -- Willpower, directly in the middle.

Blue

Indigo

Violet -- Love

Red might be the color for hate or whatever, but I don't know if we should be using traditional cultural representations of color for this. Green is not the traditional color for willpower (which isn't even an emotion anyway), violet is usually associated with royalty and not love, and yellow is only marginally associated with fear. And that's just considering western cultures' interpretations. The remaining colors could be whatever Johns wants them to be, frankly.
