Better is subjective. Now as to whether one would get a better agragate critic score? I didn't expect much from either.

I'm basing it off what I've read from people that have seen these movies. The ones that watch this movie come out surprised and impressed because expectations were low. The ones coming out of C&A come out lukewarm in most cases.

If there is a midnight showing tonight, I hope someone goes dressed up as an ape.

That would be funny. I'm going to the midnight show tonight. I'm not expecting many people to be there but it would interesting if there's a good turnout.

The "rate the movie" poll has been added due to midnight showings being held tonight.

I haven't seen it since it was in the theater, but didn't Wahlberg escape the planet and return to Earth, but he wound up showing up in the future where the apes had taken over? I thought that was the ending.

hmm, I got this from wiki and it seems no one, not even Burton himself, can explain it.

Much criticism was leveled against the ambiguous ending. Tim Roth, who portrayed General Thade, said "I cannot explain that ending. I have seen it twice and I don't understand anything."[20] Helena Bonham Carter, who played Ari, said, "I thought it made sense, kind of. I don't understand why everyone went, 'Huh?' It's all a time warp thing. He's gone back and he realizes Thade's beat him there."[20] Burton claimed the ending was not supposed to make any sense, but it was more of a cliffhanger to be explained in a possible sequel. "It was a reasonable cliffhanger that could be used in case Fox or another filmmaker wanted to do another movie," he explained.

Anyway, I can put that behind me and be excited for Rise.

I really enjoyed the film.

A couple of nice nods to the previous film (Heston)

Opens up a lot for sequels.

I get the feeling this will make surprisingly strong numbers this weekend. Like between 50 and 70 million.

Just saw it and it was AWESOME! I'd say 8.5/10. Lots of drama. Great performances and how everything comes together = can't wait for the sequel.

FAVORITE MOVIES OF THE SUMMER

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
CAPTAIN AMERICA (this is what Indy 4 should have been)
SUPER 8 / RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (TIED)
THE CHANGE-UP

The part where Caesar talks floored everyone in the audience. It was a real "oh my f- god he just spoke!" moment. I also loved how even in the midst of survival, he still cared about the well-being of man. Stopping a gorilla from killing someone even. Shows that he's above human. That's what I'm really intrigued about for the sequel - how do you go from "NO!" to "THIS IS OUR PLANET!"

Hmmm...all the summer movies I either A)thought would be a miss (Apes), B)hoped would be a miss (1st Class), C) thought would be under-appreciated (Bridesmaid), & D) had no excitement over (Captain Jingosim) are turning into the best movies of the summer.

When was the last time we had a movie summer like this?

I liked the movie, surprisedly. It's also refreshing for a movie like this to come out during the summer and Serkis' performance as Caesar is captivating and he made the movie. The effects in the movie is stunning, great work by WETA Digital.

I'll go see this later, I'll catch the AM showing. Looks like a good time at the movies.

I saw the movie last night it was really good to me and for the most part the special effects were spot on with the apes.

My theater shut the movie down only a couple minutes into the ending credits. So I have a question for anyone who was able to see the entire end credits.
Is there anythng after the airport scene?

Surprised how good this seems to be, will probably go and see it now as it sounds like one of the better blockbusters of the summer.

I am also shocked at the reviews...I...might...have...to...see this now.

So I guess Time Travel would be involved in Sequels to fix the Apes mess ?

Tell a lot of people here that a year ago and you would be ridiculed for saying something that seemed so ludicrous.

I did think it was going to get slaughtered by Captain America or First Class after they moved the release date away.

Also I thought First Class would bomb with it.

I may catch this next weekend. I wasn't looking forward to it, but the good buzz may get my ass in the chair. I'm surprised at the reviews, tbh.

I'll have to wait to mid-week:(,My wife wants to see it too and so I promised we'd go together on her day-off!!

Is this anything like the Power Puff Girls' movie with Mojo Jojo and his army of apes?

I liked it quite a lot. The CGI on the apes was phenomenal, and unless there's something really impressive coming out this fall that I haven't heard about they should be a lock for best special effects at the Oscars.

The whole profit motive thing with David Oyelowo's character was hamfisted and, as I think about it, not at all in sync with the events depicted. I assume the point is that Oyelowo's blind desire for money leads him (and humanity) to a bad end, but Oyelowo's actions have nothing to do with either the ape revolt or the creation of the super-virus. Oyelowo's decision to continue testing results solely in the creation of nine extra chimps who wouldn't have mattered if Caesar and co. hadn't escaped. Consider:
1) Who created Caesar? James Franco.
2) Whose secret stash of the virus was used by Caesar to boost up all his followers? James Franco's.
3) The super-virus infected Patient Zero in the test personally supervised by James Franco, not any of the subsequent trials ordered by Oyelowo. So even if Oyelowo had followed Franco's advice, the virus was still going to kill almost everyone.
4) Oyelowo is ultimately killed, not by one of the nine additional apes tested on after Franco left, but on the one ape whose experimentation had been authorized by and conducted under the auspieces of Franco.
5) The nine additional apes were only freed by Caesar's band, whose creation Oyelowo had nothing to do with.
In conclusion, it's James Franco's fault.

I'm glad to see Freida Pinto career going well in Hollywood, but her character was hardly in the movie. She looked awesome, at least. John Lithgow was excellent in his comparatively brief screentime.

You would think that Draco Malfoy would have learned not to be such a *****ebag.
