Samaritan: MGM Acquires Sylvester Stallone's Superhero Drama

Variety is reporting that MGM has acquired Sylvester Stallone’s (Creed II) superhero drama Samaritan. Stallone will star in the project and will produce through his Balboa Productions company that launched last May.

Written by Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room), Samaritan centers on a boy learning that a missing superhero, who vanished 20 years earlier after a battle, may still be alive.

Production on Samaritan is scheduled to begin this year. MGM will develop the project with Stallone and Braden Aftergood of Balboa Productions. Schut will also serve as executive producer.

I like the sound of this, could be a great role for Sly.

Sounds really intriguing. Guess we'll be seeing some de-ageing on Stallone for the battle where he goes missing :yay:

So this isn't related to Astro City. Crap. That's a comic that should get a movie or tv show.

Hopefully better than this

Still better than CGI Arnold's young faces from Terminator: Salvation and Genisys. Those are by far the worse I've seen.

Films sounds interesting

Well, the important thing is they tried.

That didn't look too bad... I feel when they show old footage, they also need to reduce the HD so it actually looks like tv of that era, hides way more.... it's like in Justice League... with the opening scene.. I would have had that way blurrier as it's on some kids phone... I mean yeah I get it , they tried that but still...

His body looks like it's falling apart...

Another reason why I don't want Indie 5...I was talking to my neighbour yesterday.. he is 78, same as Harrison... and damn this guy couldn't go off on adventures.. sure, make up, hair done, wardrobe, he could look 'better' but Harrison is too old... same goes for sly and arnie.. time to realize when it's no longer worth it..

altho Keaton coming back, that's the one I am holding out for..

Keaton is both a decade younger and in better shape than Stallone and Ford.

Sylvester Stallone muscles in on the superhero genre in this exclusive Samaritan image | GamesRadar+

We didn’t really have superheroes,” Samaritan director Julius Avery (Overlord, Son Of A Gun) tells Total Film of growing up in the 1980s. “We only had action heroes. And Sly was the closest thing we had to a superhero. So to put him in a superhero movie? That feels fresh and cool and something that people will get a kick out of.”

He’s not wrong. The conceit of Samaritan is a peach: a young lad learns that a superhero who went missing 20 years ago is living next door to him. Yep, it sounds like a powered-up Finding Forrester or Apt Pupil, and Avery confirms that the tone will be grounded in humanity – a film about a kid looking for a father figure, by a director who lost his own dad when he was young.

But that doesn't mean this won't be one action-packed affair. "This is a big event movie – we see our heroes kicking ass," Avery confirms. “We’re going to see Sly do things he hasn’t done in a long time, and in a really inventive way. He’s 73 years old! I’m amazed by how much he actually does. I’m telling you, most guys in their twenties wouldn’t be able to do what Sly does in this movie.”

It has the 'feel' of Unbreakable to a degree, which given director involved, themes and Stallone involved, (love the guy), I'm well in for this.
