I'd say the chances of Laurel becoming the Canary at this point, are the size of a tangerine.:woot:

By time Laurel becomes Black Canary, we willl actually like her and will be rooting for her.

Bet on it.

I'd bet on the fact that the people that want Sara to stay as Canary, people that have soured on Laurel, and the people that just don't like the character or the actress won't ever root for her.

Which from what I've seen is a good portion of the fanbase.

Even a decent amount of the "Black Canary has to be Dinah Laurel Lance" sticklers have come around to wanting Sara to stay as Black Canary.

Felicity. I used to like Laurel but not so much after this season because of the way her character was handled, and after hooking up with Ollie again I don't like Sarah as much either.

On the other hand everyone likes Felicity, and she showed in the last episode she is not afraid to get her hands dirty. I don't see how it would be any more difficult to make her Black Canary than it would Laurel.

Just have Laurel grow into a seperate identity for now, and only then, if her new status quo is met with resounding applause, consider shifting the identity over.

This. Make us care about the character first. Don't force us to care about the character, because you decided she needs to don the black leather at all cost.

I've asked this before, but in all the various comic guises, has Black Canary ever used a different name? I mean in the manner that Robin became Nightwing. If so, I could see her become that character in the show if they don't (stupidly IMHO) kill Sara off.

If Laurel ever becomes Black Canary then it better just be because Sara's dropped the name and taken another alias. Maybe Black Knight for CHECKMATE or something badass like that.

If they kill Sara off to shoehorn Laurel into the Black Canary role I'm quitting.

I was personally on the fence for a while but I was re-watching what's aired of Season 2 so far recently, and I just can't see how they're going to put Laurel on equal footing w/her sister by the end of their five year plan (something Amell confirmed is in place as far as Oliver's backstory during the Dallas Comic-Con). So I vote Sara. I love story, and Sara's storyline is far superior to Laurel's when it comes to being a foil to the series hero, Oliver.

Can't they have both? One can stay on Arrow and the other one can have a Birds of Prey spin off?

If it's a spin-off that means it's connected to the main show. So if Sara is the Black Canary on the BOP show then she is the Black Canary that well used for crossovers on Arrow. There would be no need to have two.

Laurel.

I don't have a problem with either actress in the role. Katie isn't as terrible as those who dislike her constantly claim. Proclamations which at times come off as a hyperbolic snake-eating-its-tail sort of thing. And while Caity is certainly tops in the physicality side of things, as a performer she is still very raw. Her cries of "NO!" when Nyssa kidnapped her mother was practically TROLL 2 "Why can't I move...they're eating her...OH MY GOOoooOOD!" quality.

The difference between the two characters and why Laurel wins out in my eyes: Sarah is the one whose tendency towards Stockholm syndrome led her to torture innocent people for a mad scientist for a year. Which she followed up by joining an Assassins cult and murdering innocent people for them. And while the argument she had to do it to survive works for Ivo, I doubt it carries the same weight with her time in the League of Assassins.

As for the issue of training, if we were at the end of the third season I'd agree. But the show isn't even half way through the Producer's five year story plan. Not every plot line needs to move at break neck pace. That path leads to burning out, see the season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.

That's my choice, not the popular one 'round here---but there you go.

Whether it's popular or not, you've clearly given it some thought, which is more than most fans of the other two possible LIs (Laurel and Felicity) do in defending their choice of LI for Oliver. For me, it's always about story. Right now, Sara's storyline makes sense for her being the permanent BC. But as I've said over on the GreenArrowTV forums under my regular handle (JDBentz), if any team of writers can manage to turn things around, it's the Arrow team.

If they manage to pull off a storyline that makes KC/Laurel a plausible Canary, I'll be happy to support her. I just hope that they won't kill Sara, but maybe cripple her and make her the Arrowverse's Oracle since the likelihood of Barbara Gordon being in this show is minimal, and they've intimated they want to have a recurring 'Birds of Prey' storyline.

I vote Sara. I can't stand Laurel. And as I've said in another thread, she's like a TV show I have absolutely no interest in watching, so I don't care to follow her arc to see her become BC.

If they cut all of her scenes out of Arrow, I wouldn't miss them at all.

Yikes! A lot more people are voting for laurel than I expected....

As of last count, I think it's 6 or 8 for Laurel, 31 for Sara. I think those of us who are Sara fans don't have much to worry about. I know for a fact it's only members who can vote that poll, so it's better than other sites where it can be done w/o a membership in the forum (I've been lurking for a few days, then decided to join).

I think it would be horrible to cripple Sara, that would probably be worse than death for some like her.

And why on Earth would they put the actress capable of doing her own stunts in a chair and it give the stunt heavy role to the actress that can't?

They said they were working on fixing Laurel's character from last season and all they have succeeded in doing is making her worse and took her even further away from the main plot and her journey towards becoming BC. A whiny self pitying drug addict is not my idea of a great hero origin story.

Laurel is not needed on this show, she's been replaced as Black Canary by Sara and the hero's popular love interest by Felicity.

If Laurel became the female villain of the show, that would go some way to "redeeming" her, and would seem like a natural progression of her story arc.

Put Laurel into the same situation Sara was, she would have probably turned out worse or maybe wouldn't have survived at all. Sara has a survival instinct. Sure, what she did wasn't great, but with the other alternative being getting raped and possibly killed by a bunch of barbaric pirates, you'll hurt a couple of innocents to ensure your own survival. As for the league, she owed them a life debt. We know that killing innocents wasn't easy for Sara, as it chipped away at her soul. In the end, she chose death, over re-joining the League.

Laurel to me is too emotionally unstable. She's more likely to become the next Huntress, than Canary. Look at the manhunt she led when she couldn't cope with Tommy's death. Or how she put 6 bullets into the fake brother blood. Six freaking bullets. She didn't simply rescue Oliver, she wanted to make sure the guy is dead. That was cold murder.

And then you have the occasional small scenes here and there, where Laurel quickly loses her temper. Like when Sara mentioned Oliver might not be ready to settle down. Laurel had crazy eyes.

If Sara's name was Dinah and Laurel's name was Sara...would we even be having this conversation? No, of course not.
