Magnet has unleashed the teaser trailer for Gareth Edwards' Monsters, opening on October 29. The film picks up six years after Earth has suffered an alien invasion and a cynical journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.

Very effective in my view, feels like a mix of District 9 and Cloverfield.

You're right! That does look pretty good. I'll be keeping tabs on this one...

Damn, I had a chance to see a screening of this but I had to miss out on it. After seeing that trailer, I really wish I had been able to go. :(

It looks like it could be good. Although I heard the two leads were bad.

Looks interesting...I really enjoy these types of films so I'll keep an eye on it for sure.

Monsters is written, produced and directed by Gareth Edwards, a big up-and-coming filmmaker who shot this on a shoestring budget in Mexico and did all of the visual effects on his own computer. The movie stars Scoot McNairy, who I've actually seen in commercials recently, and Whitney Able. Here's the basic concept: "Six years after Earth has suffered an alien invasion, a cynical journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border." It's a totally amazing film that I loved and will be pushing as much as I can through October. Visit the official website: monstersfilm.com.

All I have to say is WOW! What a VERY impressive trailer!

looks like straight to dvd vfx...

still looks interesting though

What vfx looked straight to dvd to you? Honestly, everything looks so raw and natural in it that I couldn't tell what was an 'effect'. It's like a cross between 28 Days Later and District 9.

It is noticeable but I think is great for a uh homemade vfx.
This movie looks great but this type of movies don't usually released here in Sweden (crossing fingers though), but hope to watch it one day.

This looks really rad. Mexico, for better or worse, just begs the idea of shooting a post-apocalyptic, wasteland-esque picture, only that Mexico isn't all vast desert. It looks like we're getting a pretty lonely, hard-edged look at some exotic locales and untapped visual resources, which is really refreshing. It's nice to have something that looks like a burnt out version of life rather than some giant stretch of sand and dirt.

Interesting concept, but I'll save up for my judgement. The reliance on low-focus shots is really annoying. I know it helps the CG artists, but it can still rob a scene of certain effect (no pun intended). The film's definitely admirable, I'll give it that.

Wonderful second trailer!

I love this trailer!

second trailer is much better... its now gone from straight to dvd to low budget.. lol

You DO know the movie ACTUALLY is low-budget, right?

Call me crazy, but this looks far more satisfying than Cloverfield.

I completely agree. Granted the night-vision moments are almost identical to Cloverfield, I have a feeling this will be more satisfying.

I see no dialogue in the second trailer, either lol. I'll wait and hold judgement, but I really hope this doesn't turn out to be some excuse for someone to show off their talent for visual effects.

I've seen this twice. Believe me, it's an amazing film. Please go see it if you have the chance.

And as far as I know, the budget was less than $15,000.
