Setting Up A Home Network (XP)

I'm en barking on making my first home network for 2 XP PCs and 2 XP Laptops, now that I've changed internet providers to Sky. We did have a network on our old connection, but it was set up by a computer tech who's since gone out of business. I've surfed around a little and read up on windows help and support articles on it, but I still don't think I know enough to build one. Do you really need a network adaptor for every PC/Laptop joining the Network? Can you get them on the cheap?

I assume its going to be wireless connection on each computer? Do your laptops have wireless adapters? and do you have a sky setup disk?
