Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have signed Kevin Lima (Enchanted) to direct Spook's Apprentice, reports Variety.

He and the "Spook's" producing team flew to London last week to work on the adaptation of Joseph Delaney's children's book, first in a six-part series, about a 13-year-old boy who learns about wizardry from a forbidding old spook.

Matt Greenberg originally adapted the project, which Warners and Legendary are co-producing and co-financing along with Thunder Road. Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk is producing with Lionel Wigram and Lima's producing partner, Chris Chase. Alysia Cotter, who brought the project to the studio before she joined Legendary, is executive producing.

Too bad Burton isn't doing his one after all.....He would have cast Depp as the 13 year old boy though.

I was holding out for Burton to adapt the film. And now he isn't. Was he only interested?

Sergei Bodrov Helming Spook's Apprentice

Russian helmer Sergei Bodrov will direct Spook's Apprentice for Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures and Thunder Road.

The film is an adaptation of Joseph Delaney's children's book, first in a six-part series, about a 13-year-old boy who learns about wizardry from a forbidding old spook.

Chuck Leavitt (Blood Diamond) will rewrite the adaptation, originally adapted by Matt Greenberg.

Okay, what is this director's track record? It better be ****ing good because these books are some of my favorites and I don't want to see them butchered.

At least they got a good writer.

Was Mongul good?

These books are great. It's like a more grown up and darker Harry Potter. The illustrations are scary and have this Burton Sleepy Hollow like imagry to them that I hope they adopt into the film.

Edit: Holy ****, two Academy Award nominations? Okay, now I'm optimistic.

I have never even heard of this project. Is that Daniel Bruhl? Who is the old man?

I have never even heard of this project. Is that Daniel Bruhl?

That is Ben Barnes who played Prince Caspian in the Narnia films.

Kit Harrington (Game Of Thrones/Silent Hill:Revaltions), Olivia Williams (X-Men The Last Stand) and Djimon Housou (Blood Diamonds) also star in the movie.

I hope they didn't change too much. Because the books weren't set in the middle ages. More towards the 17th or 18th century.

So the film of this is named The Seventh Son, can we get a thread title change?

did'nt change too much?they changed bridges character from a minister into a knight and btw ben barnes character is 10 years old in the book

lots of fans are pissed lol

I don't exactly mind Ben being older, but I don't like the change to a knight.

This reminds of the countless adaptations, including Eragorn, where it's totally mismanaged and misinterpreted.

She and Jeff Bridges may be the highlights. And Moore.

Or maybe the studio just doesn't have a clue how to market it properly. Not all January releases are bad movies.

But we haven't seen a trailer, just several images.

Maybe WB's just f**king with it because it's from Legendary. Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way.

Going to a test screening of this tonite...non specific thoughts later

I thought I read somewhere that the push back to January '14 was mainly just because of the FX and the visuals getting an overhaul?
