February 4, 2009

Universal Pictures has tapped Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) to write and Kevin Lima (Enchanted) to direct a live-action feature based on the Hasbro board game.

According to Variety, the project is the first film to emerge from the deal Universal made last February with Hasbro, whose properties are the basis for the summer tentpole films G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner is producing alongside executive producer Christopher Chase.

Live-action King Kandy and Lord Licorice, baby!

A Candy Land movie? really?

Live action?

You would think this would work better as a CGI kids/family film.

I'll wait 'til a trailer down the road to see exactly where there taking this idea.

What's next? Chutes and Ladders?

I think you mean Chutes and Ladders. The one you mentioned is a porno, I believe.

OH MY GOSH!! I was only kidding when I suggested that a while ago!! What have I done!?!?!

Well Candy Land is a board game with a narrative at the very least. I assume it will be about some kids who have to find the candy king. I think it could be kind of neat and fun. Who doesn't want to go to a world made of candy?

LOL.

Thanks for the correction terry. Didn't notice since I was typing in a hurry...I hate being at work.

I dont! i would od on all that candy! :oldrazz:

I'm about to show my age here :hehe:, but the Candy Land game i played didnt have characters on it, just colored little figures you moved around and a candy house at the end of it: http://blog.makezine.com/candyland.jpg

If the newer versions have characters, well that might make more sense for a movie.

For some odd reason, I'm not against this.

No one is screaming that Kevin Lima is going to rape their childhood, because most straight fanboys deny ever even having this game. But we ALL did.

Now I can imagine all the Candyland purists complaining that the film doesn't look like the game did in the original version from the eighties... :(

Wtf's Candy Land? Never heard of it.

I'm gonna look it up.

:o

I'm going to get on a plane to Hollywood with a pitch for Boggle: The Movie.

Get Tim Burton on this project and have the kingdom turned gothic and dark like some American McGee take on Candy Land.

:dry:Of all the board games to turn into a movie, they pick Candy Land?

It's not like there's a wide variety of good ideas when it comes to board game movies. I mean, after this, where can you go? "Hungry Hungry Hippos"? "Operation"? "Twister: The Movie" starring Megan Fox and Jessica Biel?

^I'd be down with a "Risk" Movie :D

You can't go wrong with "Chess". Its just a medieval war in and black & white checkered country.
