Anyone have any short stories or anthologies of shorts that they like? I picked up The New Dead yesterday. Its an anthology of zombie short stories, kind of a mixed bag but not bad.

Anyone have any shorts that they like, of any genre?

Thomas Ligotti's Teatro Grottesco, though he tends to be a mixed bag for me. His vignettes are better. M.R. James's collected stories Just got a copy of Ramsey Campbell's Alone With the Horrors. Anything by Blackwood, particularly Ancient Sorceries and Other Weird Stories.

I love Robert Howard's Conan stories. I think they qualify for the most part. I'm also a fan of Moorcock's "The Stealer of Souls." Its a short story that was later collected with a few others into a single volume titled The Stealer of Souls. Moorcock and Howard are the giants of the Sword and Sorcery genre.

Tenth of December by George Saunders makes for a compelling read. I especially loved the one titled 'Victory Lap' which is about a teenage girl and her attempted abduction.

Another very good collection is the one called Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman. Some of these are super-touching and send shivers down your spine.

currently i have not
