Showtimes new Original show The Affair starring The Wire's Dominic West and Luther star Ruth Wilson.

Off to an interesting start. It tells the story of an affair, and a yet to be revealed crime, from both a male and female perspective.

Is no one else watching this..?

Yes, we're getting a season 2!

The series kind of sagged in the middle.

There's nothing inherently interesting about the affair or murder that you don't see on any primetime telenovela. Without the investigation surrounding the two perspectives, the series lost momentum.

The series is now just a murder mystery.

I do find the wife, Helen, interesting more so than any other character.

How are they going to get a whole second season out of these already fleshed out people? Is it going to be like the Killing where you wait two seasons to finally find out who the killer is? I was hoping this was going to be an anthology series and wrap up each season. That didn't happen. :(

That's what i thought too. However since i love both West and Wilson in pretty much anything they do, i'm intrigued to see how s2 plays out.

Looks like it will be less about Noah's family and more about Noah and Alison next season, seeing as how they have moved in together and have a kid.

I thought the premise was great but I just wish the murder aspect was more interesting. The real murder paled in comparison to the theories I've read or thought of. I loved the different POV style of storytelling especially when it was through the interrogation and when the events were overlapping. I liked it more though when the difference between the POVs were not that different as opposed to when they were complete opposites. The events inspiring Noah's book was cool as well. I'm not sure how they're going to drag this in S2 but I hope we get to see other POVs like Helen's and Cole's.

Allison is interesting at times but Noah is such an unlikable bore. Noah just strikes me as a world class selfish jerk undergoing a middle life crisis. I just find myself rooting more for Helen and Cole (or maybe it's because I love Joshua Jackson and Maura Tierney :p). It's hard to root for the people having the affair as it is but at least they should make them more understandable and I feel that they failed that with Noah. Even though they were ****ing a lot, I still don't see much chemistry with him and Wilson. To both their credit, the show is beautifully acted especially Wilson. Her Alison is heartbreaking.

I'm also confused on the timelines. Am I right that
the difference between the past and presence (when Noah and Alison are already together and were interrogated) has to be at least a year (more or less) since they already have a kid? If so, it seems that Scott just died (because he just had his funeral) so IF Noah did it (which I doubt but whatever), then it means he's carrying a year old grudge for Scotty getting Whitney pregnant?

[BLACKOUT]I thought Alison said she had to pick up the kid from daycare in the pilot so I figured it had been a few years since the affair/pregnancy but the murder was recent.[/BLACKOUT]

Oh yeah, that's another thing.
So that means even more years have passed than I originally thought. Kinda weird for the detective to be looking into Noah and Allison when Noah's probably cause (Scotty knocking Whitney up) occurred years ago.

I actually thought it was Alison's boss that got offed, not you know who, originally.

I thought it was [blackout]Noah's FIL[/blackout]. :funny:

Ruth won best actress too.

Glad this is back. Missed Ruth Wilson :hrt: Interesting that they're going with his wife's POV this season.

I just hope with four perspectives instead of just two that it doesn't get too repetitive. :(

I didn't know this came back last night...

Seeing Helen's perspective was nice. I love this disparity between her's and Noah's.

Ruth Wilson does a great job of her characterization when portraying Allison of the present (when she's Noah's wife) and Allison of the past (the bulk of the episode). They really feel like two different people.

I'm glad they included Cole and Helen's POV this time.

Anyone else noticed that Noah is only NOT an ass on his POV? Like, even on Alison's POV, he's just a sex-crazed jerk. :funny:

I'm enjoying Cole's POV the most.

Yeah, Charlie Conway's perspective is the most interesting this year. I'm sort of over Noah, he's just an ass all around. Allison is slightly boring me, and Helena is amazing.

Maura is the acting MVP of this year.

Interesting development with Allison baby perhaps not being Noah's.....but as they say, 'what comes around, goes around'.

I was thinking the baby might be her ex-husband's, but no way is it Scott's. That's just crazy.
