Sicario

I need to find more films like that to watch. The score and cinematography took my viewing experience to a whole new level.

Watch Fassbender's Macbeth. I saw it pretty much back to back with Sicario and found a lot of similarities between them, thought they made a great pairing.

Just got my dispatch e mail from Amazon, my Blu Ray copy should arrive on Thursday (hopefully sooner :D).

Mine as well mate. Too bad there's no extended cut as Denis doesn't like doing them.

Update on Sicario 2

'Sicario' Sequel In Development, Producer Says http://thr.cm/59aEAz

What is the status of Sicario 2? Happening or not happening?

SMITH We're in full development with the studio. I just got a draft [of a script from writer Taylor Sheridan], and we're really excited.

THAD We've circulated it to the reps, and everybody [from the cast of the original is] on board.

TRENT Taylor's a really great world-builder. He's got that kind of modern Western voice, which is in vogue right now. And he did it again [with the sequel]. It's a great big world. We can't reveal the plot, but you'll see [Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin] all come back. You have such a great character with Benicio, who was as dark as he was and still so loved. That character resonates so well with audiences. People want to know what happened to him, so it's a perfect foray for us to explore. Obviously we would love it if Denis could [direct]. He's a busy man, but he's certainly part of the process with us right now.

I watched this movie a few weeks ago with my husband. Great movie. A lot of grey area that makes for interesting discussions.

Sicario is a superb film and to read that Blunt, Brolin and Del Toro are all coming back is excellent news.

It's better than a stupid spin off idea but I don't want to know more about Del Toro's character. His barely spoken of backstory was there for more specific reasons that helped the story. These are things you don't need to elaborate on.

Sicario 2 is full steam ahead but no Emily Blunt. :csad:

‘Gomorra’s Stefano Sollima Frontrunner To Helm Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin In ‘Sicario 2’ http://deadline.com/2016/06/sicario-sequel-stefano-sollima-benicio-del-toro-gomorra-1201765978/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter …

Lionsgate and Black Label Media are getting closer to a production start on Soldado, the second installment of the drug war thriller that began with 2015’s Sicario.

I’m told that Stefano Sollima is the frontrunner to direct the second installment and should have the job shortly, with talks expected to wrap up quickly.

It focuses on Alejandro Gillick, the shadowy Man on Fire-like protagonist played by Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin’s CIA agent Matt Graver, who in the first film established themselves as hellbent on hunting down cartel kingpins, no matter what. The script by Sheridan — who wrote the original — has been very well received. Gone is the principled FBI agent character played by Emily Blunt. The subject matter is very topical, as Gillick and Graver concern themselves with what is being smuggled across the border between Mexico and the U.S. in the tunnels used to move drugs and illegal immigrants. Those tunnels can also be used to bring terrorists into the U.S.

I liked her character, but given how the film ended, it made more sense that her character would rather get away from that life. She was way out of her element, and that is something that was made very clear throughout the film.

I agree would've loved a cameo though. Denis Villeneuve also not returning so it takes my expectations and hype down as well.

Also, since they're aiming to shoot the sequel in the fall, Blunt will deliver her second child and/or do publicity for The Girl on the Train.

Sollima seems to be well versed in the crime genre which I guess is a plus.

Yeah, Villeneuve is one of the most exciting directors around right now. He made the first film what it was.

I doubt it. He's filming Blade Runner 2 during the fall with Dennis.

This was one of my favorite movies of last year, but I have no interest in this sequel.

Kinda disappointed that they're doing a sequel. This seems like it'd be better as a one and done film.

Watched this a couple of weeks ago. Great film. Absolutely loved the freeway scene where they're about to get taken out by some hitmen in cars, amazing tension there.

How was Blunt the weakest part of the film? She gave a great performance and she was the moral center of the story. Del Toro had the more interesting role, but without Blunt and her character i don't think the film works.

Anyway, i have no interest in a sequel really. Alejandro should remain mysterious. I can imagine them delving into his backstory etc which i think lessens the appeal. Del Toro showed through his performance that this guy has been through hell and back. The scene where he finally gets his revenge was just so powerful.

Yeah, Blunt's character was the anchor of the film. Without her, a character like Alejandro wouldn't have worked at all. He and Brolin were purely supporting characters and worked as such and now putting them front and center is just bad.
